VanZam
Cant say im surprised... Pattaya is a shit hole, most normal non sex tourists would agree to that. In fact most Thais will even dispute thats its part of Thailand. Its a city full of the countries low-life workers, ###### just take a look at standard of girls working there. stateman
the advent of high gasoline price is causing a lot of hardship to people who can't make ends meet, or losing jobs, etc. in general time is hard for the lower income folks. i read about many more crimes occurring to thais, with occasional ones happening to farangs. so i tend to think it is equal opportunity here! as long as the robbers think he/they can get away with the crime. Smokin Joe
Here in the U.S., the media focus so overwhelmingly on the negative that people outside of an area are left with exaggerated images of the dangers present in that area.I note that because I am wondering if the same is true there in Pattaya. As I monitor the info posted here at TV, I see a parade of items about assaults such as this one. I can't help but wonder about the threat level perceived by those of you who live there. Is it, in fact, unsafe to walk the streets of Pattaya alone, at night, these days? Or are incidents like this extremely rare, and not something that should deter a man from such activities. (It is, of course, never adviseable, in any country or location, for a woman to do so.) Your experiences and frank opinions are welcomed. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> One point not mentioned is that due to the large number of Pattaya residents and mebers who at least have visited EVERY incident like this makes it into the forum. I doubt that every simple assault, mugging, or theft in other areas makes it onto the forum. Cant say im surprised... Pattaya is a shit hole, most normal non sex tourists would agree to that. In fact most Thais will even dispute thats its part of Thailand. Its a city full of the countries low-life workers, ###### just take a look at standard of girls working there. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Right on Britmaveric, VanZam sounds like one of those two faced sickos that hates Pattaya in Public and sneaks down to slum in the worst parts of town that he can find. Interesting that he feels qualified to judge the standards of the girls working here.

Lifelover
I love that spelling error! KAOTYS. The word is katoeys, but I think that kaotys is much more descriptive. Kind of like "chaotic boys" or even "chaotic Thais".

nikster
But I wonder if some of the punks have the impression that ANY farang must have something worth stealing? Wear dreadlocks, fisherman's pants, flip flops and an indian-looking shirt and no one will bother to rob you. Worst that can happen is that they try to sell u some dope Seriously, don't know about Pattaya but Thailand is one of the safest countries I have been in. Definitely safer than walking through LA or any other american city at night...

To say Pattaya is like any other city in Thailand, shows a profound lack of knowledge of this land. I live near enough to Patts, as to be able to come and go as I please. I can see it going down hill every time I go. It has been sliding for years now, as anyone who has been coming here over the years, will tell you. Having said this, it's still a great place to shop, eat, and meet/socialise with fellow country men and farangs in general. First and foremost, the town is very badly managed. Personally, I'd sack them all and start again, with dire threats against corruption.
britmaveric
Simbo - corruption, crime is rampant most everywhere in Thailand - this is a fact. Patters just gets more publicity. I agree with you in part I'd sack the city official as well for not having Beach and 2nd road complete for starters. Yes the city has heaps to offer everyone - everything you said and more, not to mention the world famous "Blues Factory". Now if the govt crackdowns on planks - we all can rest easy!!! 99BigLad99
Pattaya at Night I live in Thailand and visit Pattaya every two or three weeks and yes I have had one problem at night but only from a group of Thai lads that were the worst for wear, who wanted money, I took one down and the rest took off. It was my own fault that they approached I stopped to light a cig in a dark doorway(not street wise). Pattaya like any other city on earth be it it UK USA or Outa Mongolia if you are street wise and don't put yourself in the position to be accosted, you are perfectly safe. Not being an American but having spent quite a bit of time in the States I find it most strange how the media in in States depict just about everywhere outside USA as unsafe, the government I am sure don't really want residents travelling outside America, keep the money inside the country. Also it always surprises me in hotels in Pattaya why Americans get charged an over night fee for taking girls to their rooms, most Americans don't even question the charge. I am a Brit:yohan: and all I say is "I am not American" and the charge is waived! Americans pay for their drinks as they get them in a bar (& tip each time) - others pay at the end of a session (tip once)- why Don't get me wrong I like the American people but why is it on Holiday you are so gullible at times. This post in no way is meant to insult or offend but just to point out differences and some Americans are over spending at the bars and hotels.
