LOWER DIR, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- Militants on Friday attacked a Pakistani check post killing 14 soldiers near the Afghan border, Online International News Network (OINN) reported.

The attack took place on Friday morning as a large group of militants crossed from the Afghan province of Kunar and attacked the security forces. The Kharakhai check post is located in the remote area of Jandool in Lower Dir district.

The militants fired at the Pakistani post for hours which was defended by Frontier Corps and local security forces. In addition to the 14 Pakistani troops killed, seven more were injured.

Authorities deployed more Frontier Corps units to the check post and launched a massive operation against the militants. Security Forces gained back the control of the facility.

It is estimated that around 300 militants participated in the attack but no official data has been released. Fazal Karim, a local government official, said that five soldiers were beheaded after the insurgents occupied the post.

Cameron Munter, the United States ambassador to Pakistan, condemned the "terrible attack" on personnel of the Frontier Corps. The U.S. diplomat labeled the death of Pakistani soldiers and law enforcement officials as a tragic loss.

"The United States deeply admires and respects the commitment and sacrifices of Pakistan’s military forces in the fight against violent extremists," the Ambassador added. "We will continue to work with the people and government of Pakistan to build a peaceful and secure future for its citizens."

Well it is about time Pakistan launches a major operation on that entire region to put this thing to bed once and for all. What are they ? Pussies? More worried about the more passive Indians than going it head to head with Alqaeda and the Taliban which is running rife in that area of thier country. This is the REAL War on Terror. :bah:
