Hello,

My wife and I are considering opening an inclosed hockey rink here in our village. Everything appears to be in order thus far; refrigeration units, water purifier, electrical loads, stadium contractors. Our only hang-up is locating an owner who is willing to part with a used Zamboni. There appears to be no Zamboni distributors in Bangkok. Any information on where to obtain a late-model unit within central Thailand would be most appreciated.

Astonishing!

I wonder how Bkk could have survived into this century without Zambonis?

Could it be related to the lack of toboggans on the northern slopes of Doi Inthanon? The appalling absence of skis at Doi Suthep? Or maybe the fact that there is no 'luge' in Loei?

Sorry.

Having got the whimsy out of the way, the only possible help I can give is that the Kad Suan Kaew shopping centre, Huay Kaew Rd, Chiang Mai, had an ice rink. I don't even know if it's still there because, although we live close by, I don't like the place or the Tops (so called) supermarket underneath it.

But if you are prepared to do some detective work, who knows, they may know?

That rink shut down like 7 years ago..or more.

LOL.......

Surely the defunct Thai national ice hockey team has one!

Take the MRT to Thailand Cultural Center. Exit to Esplanade Mall. There is a new ice skating rink and they have a Zamboni. Maybe someone knows how they got it.

People are still buying and wearing Levis? I thought that after the Dockers phase that Levis had moved on to producing branded adult diapers.

Absolutely not a better paid of blue jeans than Levi's 501's! Button-fly ---- so no penalty for going 'commando' !!!!

This is interesting...a Zamboni is an old italian car yes?

Uhh maybe a Bambini ?

Btw I dont think the Levi thing is related subject.

I have replied directly to the Hockey rink post.

It's cheaper to hire a bunch of Thai locals with big push shovels. The prairie farmers in central Canada don't have Zambonis for their home made, outdoor rinks.

Clearly a conspiracy to make sure you hire more Thai laborers. Of course, you'll need at least 3 Thais for this challenging work. One to actually pull the zamboni, and the other 2 to walk along side and keep him company.

Here is something close to the Thai solution:

Suggest contacting the Zamboni company in Paramount, Ca., USA for some guidance as they most likely know where all their machines are located and they might provide some assistance.

The Zamboni machine was invented in 1949 -- prior to that although a tedious job the ice was re-surfaced manually. Given the amount of anticipated usage for your ice rink in the village and the fact that even a used Zamboni will cost more than the ice rink costs you have listed combined, you could train a couple of the villagers to do the job as in pre-1949 mode.

When i was young in my city they didnot have zambonis. The rinks had young guys who were good skaters and wanted free ice time in exchange for helping at the rink. These guys were called rink rats. They had the privilege of useing the rink late at night after the rink was closed to play hockey on and just skate. In return for this privilege they had to clean the ice with snow shovels. and resurface the ice with a 45 gallon drum filled with water and small holes punched in the bottom placed on a sleigh that was pulled around by the rick rats. They could clean and resuface a rink as fast as a zamboni and at no cost. If you cannot do this I will contract the ice upkeep from you no problem.

Nope. Most small towns now have th series 100 at the very least.

Q: How much does a Zamboni ice resurfacer cost?

A: As the sizes and options of the Zamboni machines vary greatly according to each ice arena's individual needs, so does the price. The Model 100 (a small tractor pulled unit) may be in the neighborhood of $10,000.00 or more and the 500 Series machines and Model 700 (which is used for large surfaces, such as speed skating rinks) can be up to or in the low six figures.

If you are looking for real Zamboni equipment go to the Zamboni website and contact the sales department. I believe Thailand is serviced by Switzerland.
