April 27, 201114 yr I'm wanting to drive a truck in Thailand and were wondering if anyone has got an idea if this can be done legally Ive been told by some who works in a Traffic dept office that I can't apply for a license, even to drive my own truck (not for employment) but are able to drive a truck on a valid overseas truck licence. I know why drive a truck ?? but I quite like the idea of filling it up with fruit trees or teak funiture etc and need it for carting the mini excavator around on and moving dirt - I would employ a driver but don't want to have to rely on him - Anyone out there who has or knows about truck licenses?? - Ive got the five year car & bike licence - but they are no good for 6 wheels
April 28, 201114 yr Well done with your first post. I can tell you thought long and hard about it before you posted it!
April 28, 201114 yr Welcome to ThaiVisa hydratech If you are planning to buy a new 6 wheeler it can be registered to be used with ordinary car drivers lisence. Small plate starting with 2 letters and 3-4 numbers. Tabien lech. For a truck seating 3 people, it will have green numbers on white plate. problem solved. For a truck seating more than 10 people it will have blue letters on white plate 6 wheeler is usually registered with large plate, numbers only. Then a truck drivers lisence is needed. Most DLT will not issue one to a foreigner, as labour department does not allow foreigners to drive large plate trucks, even when not payed for driving it.

I’ll now check the registration (Trabien Lek) possibilities and see how far I get Will post the results.. Thanks for the info – This post was worth waiting for.. Cheers Out back Krabi
