I had the same problem with my antique laptop; brought it to Zeer and apparently something fried;

was quoted 2500 Baht to repair it; decided not to repair it since I could buy a refurbished for about 7K

I had a problem like that with my old Compaq, the socket for the power cable had broken due to slight drop of the laptop, repaired for a few hundred baht at Pantip Ngamwongwan.

I would write down the serial number of the hard drive, as at my local Pantip one of the shops is well known for removing a big hard drive and replacing it with a smaller one, that is also likely to fail. Had it done to me.

I can't say specifically about laptops... but I've had good experience with a variety of PC repairs and service from the Nana.com shop on the fourth floor of Fortune Town.. The techs there seem reasonably knowledgeable, their prices usually are pretty reasonable, and a number of times they've taken care of minor things and when I asked for the price, they said no charge, perhaps because I'm a repeat customer.

I've met the shop's owner, an older Thai guy who speaks good English but is rarely there, and he seems an uncharacteristically straightforward type.

They don't sell parts, so if those are required, you'll need to acquire those. But they do do the diagnosis, service and installs, both on laptops and PCs...

And in my experience, they're fine if you sit there at their desk and watch them work... to ensure against the kind of parts switch that is known to happen at some other places...

One caveat though... Depending on which staff is working at any time, the English speaking ability is limited...

When I have something for them to look at, usually, I take it in, wait around a bit watching, and if it's going to be a longer job, will go and grab some lunch in FortuneTown... and then come back by the shop afterwards... And usually the problem is fixed by that time.

They're open daily...until 8 pm or so, I believe.

Have you tried to find the reset button, usually very small hole, underneath the laptop. You might see if it has one and just use a pin to push it... very simple.... if there is one.. try looking first...

HP laptop has one, I know for sure.... I used it several times when nothing comes on!

I could have/should have added in response to the OP, apart from offering an answer to his question...

It would help matters a bit to clarify what is meant by the laptop doesn't start up.... as in... Are you saying it has no power (dead/dark) when the power switch is turned on.... or..... when turned on, it begins to power/light up, but won't start into Windows....

If it turns on with power but won't boot into Windows, one possible reason is a dead or damaged hard disk, easily replaceable...

If the unit doesn't get any power or lights when switched on, it could be various reasons. One could be a dead battery, since on many laptops, even to run the machine on AC power requires at least a minimally functioning battery... Some machines, if the battery is completely dead, they won't run on AC power.... It could be other reasons as well, such as a broken or burned out power adapter or damaged electrical jack on the laptop....
