Lesbian Couple Arrested With Illicit Drugs Possession

PATTAYA: -- A lesbian couple was arrested with possession of Ya-Ice and Ya Ba drugs during the police’s random house inspection.

Pattaya, 29th April 29 2011 [PDN]: Police Songtham Naksawat (Police Commander Of Protection Units Of Muang District) and patrol police arrested two drug suspects – Sompan Khumhongsoong, 39 of Chaiyaphum pronvice and her lesbian partner, Suree Suthon, 34.

Commander Songtham said while the police were on routine house inspection, they spotted Suree and Sompan both were talking outside room 12 of Lovely Home bungalow, north Pattaya.

As both women looked suspicious, police requested to search their bodies, the commander said adding that a bag of Ya-ice drugs was consequently found on Somphan.

Article says "...police requested to search their bodies..." -- just like lots of places, if you consent to a search, there's no warrant needed. Presumably they are claiming they got consent. Now whether that's really what happened or not, who's to say...

What I want to know is why is it necessary to identify them as "a lesbian couple"? How is that relevant or appropriate?
