Web Developer Wanted For Bahtsold

baht&sold

Recommended Posts

I'm going to have http://www.BAHTSOLD.COM re-designed with many new features.

Top priority is to be a FAST, functional site but must look/feel great as well, with added end user functions such as: ad search, auto delete date, user view ad stats, online edit and ability to export database to hardcopy specs etc, etc. Killer admin panel a neccessity, plus future expandable/adaptive front and back end.

If you can make a recommendation (good work, good cost) pls let me know.

Thx, daniel :o

Just to clarify, the current site is up and running along just fine thx and will continue as normal. When the new PHP program is ready, will transfer the up to date database without interruption. So, if you're a user of the site, no worries, just continue as normal. Thx for asking J;;

Hi Daniel,

Try emailing [email protected] with your details. The company has both good Thai and Farang designers.

The website is http://www.plaroma.com and the office is just off the Phiathai Skytrain station.

Cheers,

John_Betong

Well, John, you really seem to like these guys, your last theree posts in a row are recommendations of them :o

I looked at their homepage, and under the hood is HTML 4.01 Transitional, the html code is clean, but very much table based. It does look like a premade template design, and not an individual design. And if you read the text of the page carefully, it gets obvious. In 2 places, close to the bottom, under "Professional Web Site Design", they forgot to take out the original template text, and left the "links to details" text in there :D

- "Professional Web Site Design (links to details - PHP, Perl, CGI, My..."

- "Search Engine Submission (links to details - Meta Tag Insertion, S..."

It says "links to details" but there are no links :D

Then looking at 2 of their portfolio sites, www.supplychainfocus.com and www.yorksiamhouse.co.uk does show for both sites old century html with no doctype declaration. One site uses some css, and the code is clean, but the other one is not clean at all, lots of font tags, no real understanding of CSS, etc... The menus are premade using old software - from 1997 and 2000 by Marcromedia.

Hmmm, would you want to buy a new car today, beautiful and shiny, and have them building in an engine from the last century?

So I would say, what you get there might vary quite much depending on who actually does the work. :D

Hi yuyi,

>>> Well, John, you really seem to like these guys,

>>> your last theree posts in a row are recommendations of them

Yes the martin the director helped me with a lucrative site I had about seven years ago. Since then I have kept in touch with their progress and been impressed with the there prestigious clients. I have also done various work for them which includes adding Thaivisa to ther client database.

>>> I looked at their homepage...

As you noticed by looking at the code the site is being revamped, normal process of getting it to look pretty, functional and then to optimise the code and graphics. Quite a few of the links still require work and unfortunately have the "Under construction logo". Try revisiting in a couple of weeks and let me have your new comments.

>>> Then looking at 2 of their portfolio sites,

>>> http://www.supplychainfocus.com and http://www.yorksiamhouse.co.uk

Both sites to me are appealing to the eye, functional and also in progress. Once the clients finalise the look and feel then the optimisation process will commence. Do you like any of the other sites?

>>> Hmmm, would you want to buy a new car today, beautiful and shiny and have them building in an engine from the last century?

Yes this was my hobby in Uk, I have personally bought well over 30 saloons/sports cars at one time or another. Six vans and 6 big bikes. There are some very old engines out there that still work very well and I would be prefer to have some of them transplanted in any modern, shiny car.

>>> So I would say, what you get there might vary quite much depending on who actually does the work.

This is true since they have quite a large team of specialists in different fields which is necessary for their numerous diverse contracts.

Check out http://bloodbank.thaivisa.com. This is also 'Under construction'. In a couple of days Plaroma should have contributed their free design for this needy cause.

As you may well know the only thing worse than bad publicity is to be completely ignored! I am quite willing to persue this topic but may I suggest in another thread since this is slightly off topic.

Cheers,

John_Betong

I'd suggest looking for a developer that will work within a non-proprietary CMS. That way, if there are any future problems, you have a chance of finding someone who can work on upgrades/maintenance. CMSs generally have a wide range of additional modules for later adding extra functions such as user comments, a donations system, etc.

You don't need to be expert to take a quick technical look at a website. Use View->Page Source or View->Source in your browser. To be fast, as you probably know a site should be light on graphics (look for lots of < img > tags). Less obviously, it should use well-designed CSS, and not depend on tables for layout (look for lots of < table > < tr > < td > tags).

For search-engine marketing purposes (i.e. easily found by people using Google), words that are relevant to your subject should appear near the top of the page. I mean words such as classified ads thailand bangkok pattaya property cars boats for sale hire. That means before your sidebar menus, in the html code.

As a guideline, if it's almost impossible for you to read your own text among all that html code, something is basically wrong with the design.

Thanks for all the suggestions gents. I didn't provide all the details of the planned enhancements to the site but suffice to say, I'd like it to be on the cutting edge and a first for Thailand. Keep those suggestions coming, I'll for sure research all recommendations! :o

This is some good advice. Use an open source CMS, and if you want a 'pretty' site, just commission someone to make a slick theme for it. That way you get a robust extensible website with free software upgrades that looks great and costs peanuts.

If you get a custom website a) you'll have to hire someone every time you want to change it and :o the security is likely to totally suck.

All the above seems a little steep to me. I would suggest that you go to http://www.99cent-host.com or http://www.3ix.org/one_dollar_web_hosting.php and then either do the site yourself or have someone like our very own girlx do the design for you. She is good. Ask her to send you examples of her work!
