Visa Run From Koh Chang

Featured Replies

I have a non imm multi O and my 90 day expires on 28 May and I fancied a change especially as Mae Sot is still closed.

I thought of a couple of days on Koh Chang, doing a hop to Cambodia for a new stamp then maybe a day or 2 at Ban Phe or Ban Chang

before our trip back to Nakhon Sawan.

Apparently we pick up a bus from Victory Monument BKK to Koh Chang. Where do we get a bus to Cambodia and to which border crossing?

I don't know that area at all so any help and advice will be of benefit, thanks in advance.

You'll pick a bus up from Trat, which is the nearest Town on the mainland to Koh Chang. You then go to the Hat Lek - Koh Kong border.

Beware - I've heard many a story of overcharging at various points on this particular visa run and at this border.

It may be best to book with a 'Visa Run' company from Trat in an attempt to avoid this.

Thanks Catman, yes it does look a bit dodgey.

I presume there'll be some visa-run companies around Koh Chang ferry area too.

I can't remember to be honest CHANGOVER, it's been a long time since I went, Sorry.

I have crossed at the Kong-Hat Lek crossing and it is no problem (though I came from Cambodia & it was 2 yrs ago). The route from Hat Lek to Trat is also quite scenic. I don't think that one really needs to use a visa run compnay but it all obviously depends on your needs.

There are regular minivans (older ones) from Trat bus station which depart to Hat Lek every 45 mins (110-120 baht and 1 hr) and which terminate right at the border.

As with all Cambodia crossings have US$20- for the visa and a photo (as they will ask for 1000baht for the visa and an extra 100baht without a photo. Most likely they will aslo ask for 100baht extra but just politely refuse) If you want to stay or check out Krong Koh Kong town (not much to see but it is worth a quick look) then you can take a motorbike for about $1.50-$2 into town.

If you intend to return straight back then obviously the reverse for the minivan to Trat but do note they finish around 5-6pm from memory (TBC).

Thanks for the info people I've spoken to who do this regularly say it's 1200 baht for Cambodian visa and 350 exit stamp into Thailand which is $51. So if I give $20 will I still get it? If so I will go armed with a $20 note.
