I Have The House Book (tabien Bahn)

Recommended Posts

After a lot of hassle (do a search for tabien bahn) but no money, I got my yellow house book with my name in it and just wanted to share my experience "using" it.

I am here on a non-em B visa but do not work or have a work permit (of course). As we know that often creates problems as opening bank accounts/proving home address/credit cards and so forth often (not always) require the magic work permit...

Anyway; applying for drivers license the lady was very impressed with the tabien bahn and did not even want to see my Scandinavien license (got the IDP though) OR the letter from embassy confirming my address.

At HSBC they wanted work permit but pointing out that I had the tabien bahn ensured that I would need nothing else besides my PP also.

I am yet to apply for BKK bank internet banking but am hopefull that the book will make it easy too.

Should I for some reason not be able to obtain the non-em B extensions in the future the book will also be valuable when checking in with airlines.

I will probably get some kind of official translation made, which can also be used towards home country tax authorities proving "residency" here.

All in all; it was worth the hassle for me.

Cheers!

I am having a hard time getting the meaning of the above as you do not use home registers to check in with airlines.

Can only assume you mean checking in without a visa or onward ticket at a foreign airport coming to Thailand and can not really see Bubba Noname getting impressed with a yellow book that his computer does not mention? If you do not have a visa you do not have a visa is about as far as he is likely to check. :o

You might have a point - and yes I was refering to a one way ticket without having a visa - I have heard that some have shown the book when dealing with Thai check-in staff (I mostly fly Thai airways) and then no problem - but it might just be wishfull thinking from my side. :o

Cheers!

Hi Firefox,

After a lot of hassle em indeed!

It seems to me, myself and other people are having problems obtaining this yellow book.

Some land offices have never heard of it or give lame excuses because they can't be bothered checking.

Can you tell me the process and how you got it please?

Cheers

JJP

Make a search here for "tabien bahn" and you will find the whole story.

You are certainly right it was a hassle! Involving bringing witnesses and answering silly question ad naseaum.

Cheers!

Hi FF,

As I remember reading your house book was for a condo? and Congrats!

Has ANYONE ever received a yellow House book for an actual house? It’s funny because you read and are told that foreigner CAN OWN property in Thailand. Yet I have never met or even read about a farang getting any official documents on this. Am I missing something?

I would love to hear from some fellow farangs who have done this? Post away! :o HH

You've probably never met anyone with the necessary 40 million baht to own land here. :o Don't put too much store in Real Estate ads. saying "foreigners CAN now own land ", they're trying to get you to buy a property through the Company route, for a price of course. :D

With all due respect fire fan, your still at it.

We have had words about this issue before and I appear to be wrong over

the tax issue with condos sold when ownership is less than 5 years.

But the list of advantages you have stated are just your way of justifying standing in a queue at the local Thai government offices. ( lots of fun).

Lets just look at what you say about Tabian Bahn in your name.

1) applying for drivers license ------------------No Tabian bahn nedded for this one.

2) HSBC-------------------------------------------No Tabian bahn nedded for this one

3) BKK bank internet banking------------------ No Tabian bahn needed for this one

4) Checking in with airlines.---------------------No Tabian bahn needed for this one

5) Non-em B extensions-------------------------No Tabian bahn needed for this one

6) Residency" here. -----------------------------Different department my friend. Not Tabian Bahn

Having a Tabian Bahn in your name is not a key or a guarantee to the 6 points you state

I think HSBC Require you to be a resident for personal banking. but not to sure on that one, as a bank I think they only have branches in BKK so its on a small sale for personal customers if they do that..

But well done for getting your Yellow book hope it makes you happy.

Got any other gems to share with everyone.

All in all; it was worth the hassle for me ( Not )

Have a nice day.

:o:D

Ever since I have had my name in the blue tabiaan baan book, I have found it helpful in a number of instances. It's another piece of official paper to add weight to the non-transient nature of my existence here in Thailand.

Cheers,

Bob
