May 3, 201115 yr Hi. I'll be in Chanthaburi next week for the fruit festival, but I need to cross a border and reenter so I can start the second part of my double entry visa. What would you suggest as the most convenient border crossing from Chanthaburii for a non Thai speaker, and what's the best way/form of transportation to reach it/cross over? I have a feeling there won't be an over-the-border-and-back tourist visa renewal service like they run from Chiang Mai. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.
May 3, 201115 yr Ban Laem just a few K's from Pong Nam Ron. Transportation is easy to find in Chanthaburi but here is a car service I use 039-325-391,086-3628 528,089-2473-388 Mr. Lek
May 4, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the suggestion. So if I call that number he'll drive me across the border and back? Any idea on the price? BTW, is that three different phone numbers for the same place? They all reach Mr. Lek? Ban Laem just a few K's from Pong Nam Ron. May 4, 201115 yr Yes three diff. numbers for the same Mr. Lek. Have no idea what the charge is but should not be too much its about a 20min. drive. He will drive you to the border not across. Friends say it is a very easy border hop. I am on a retirement visa (extension) so have not been there......
May 5, 201115 yr Author Thanks. Finally, what country is it that I'm going into? Cambodia I assume, not Laos? And what town is the border crossing in, if you know? May 5, 201115 yr Ban Laem, Chantaburi, Thailand / Daun Lem, Battambang, Cambodia Cambodian visas available. Thai transit visas available. Located in Kamreang, Battambang province, Cambodia, opposite Thailand's Chantaburi province. [From the Cambodian travel website - www.canbypublications.com (which has travel directions and transportation options from the Cambodian side to all the border crossings in case anyone reading is travelling through)] Edited May 5, 201115 yr by SantiSuk
May 5, 201115 yr its an easy border crossing and there are Casinos on the Cambodian side, You might be required to buy a Cambodian visa (US$20) not thai baht or they will try and get 1,000 baht out of ya. the walk between the two is about 100 meters
May 13, 201115 yr is it possible to take a bus/van from Mueang Chanthaburi to that border? How long does it take? Thanks!
May 13, 201115 yr Several buses head that way as it is main road. the trip by car is approx. 20min. I have no idea on which bus but most folks here in Chanthaburi are very helpful........
May 15, 201115 yr OP has likely sorted his crossing by now, but for anyone else . . . I did a visa run to Ban Laem this morning, live north of Chanthaburi so called a Pattaya service, arranged to be collected on highway 3 Pick-up as arranged , and right on time A note on times - from intersection of 3 and 317 just outside Chanthaburi city, van took 30min to Pong Nam Ron, and a further 30min to the border. So approx one hour + from C'buri city It was very quiet there on a Sunday morning, our van and one other the only 'customers' - arrived 9.45am, through immigration, took a van to a duty free store (single malt!) and back through immigration, departed 10.10am. First time I've ever done a 'visa run' and have no complaints.
