Former Playboy playmate found dead at Los Angeles home

LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- Former actress and Playboy playmate Yvette Vickers was found dead at her Los Angeles home last week, police said, although she is believed to have died a long time ago.

The decomposed body of Vickers, who would be 74, was found by a neighbor last Wednesday when actress Susan Savage went to check on her after noticing old letters and cobwebs in her neighbor's mailbox.

"The letters seemed untouched and were starting to yellow. I just had a bad feeling," Savage told the Los Angeles Times. She said she decided to enter the home and found Vickers' body lying on the floor upstairs.

Savage, who knew Vickers, said she was looking at a cordless phone that appeared to have been knocked off its cradle when she first saw the body. The remains were unrecognizable.

It was not immediately known how the woman died, although police do not suspect foul play. "She kept to herself, had friends and seemed like a very independent spirit," Savage told the Times, adding that she still received cards and letters from people all over the world.

Police believe Vickers, who was the Playboy Playmate in July 1959 and has appeared in a number of movies, died around 8 months ago, but are still investigating.
