Looking For Things To Do In Bkk

Going to BKK for 4 days next week, and wondering if you guys can share any knowledge.

Looking for anything interesting that's a bit off the tourist track. I have lived in Chiang Mai for 4 years and speak decent Thai - so communicating in Thai is not a problem. I'm 28 years old, if that makes any difference!

Open to any suggestions from canals to karaoke, and noodle bars to titty bars!

Also looking for the following...

1. Somewhere to buy good quality plain cotton t-shirts in various colours, not too expensive.

2. Music shops - looking to buy a Yamaha P95 keyboard.

3. good bars - not backpacker hangouts, and not Hi-so Ekamai 300 Baht for a soda establishments either. Where do the students hangout?

4. Muay Thai - been to Lumphini already, what are my other options?

5. Tattoo shops - friend wants to get one done, what shops come recommended?

Thanks in advance!

Try Fortune Town (Phraam 9 MRT) for music shops in the area between the Mercure Hotel and the computer/IT zone. Also, opposite Fortune Town is a huge area of nightclubs and bars almost exclusively Thai, and with Thai prices.

There's another Muay Thai stadium at Rachadamneon, or go and see the Boxing Boys show at the Esplanade in Ratchada (tickets from Thaiticketmajor.com).

You can get your T shirts at Chatuchak market or MBK.

For out of the tourist trail stuff in Bangkok or elsewhere, have a look at

Thanks!

I heard channel 7 have their own boxing stadium, and entry is free. Do you know anything about this? Don't really fancy paying the 1000+ THB farang entry fee!

cheers

Correct, Ch 7 is out beside Mor Chit BTS, Sunday afternoons only, action starts about 13:30 and usually have 5 or 6 fights.

Watching the bookies in action can at times be more fun than the boxing.

Get there early as it fills up quickly.

Hey, I hate to hijack but I was planning to do the same with some friends from back home while in BKK. So when you say get there early, what are we talking about, noon? Does it help to tip the doorman to guarantee entrance? Also is Morchit the giant weekend market? It would be nice to see both in one afternoon. OP, maybe you can chime in on your experiences at ch7 Stadium. It's funny to watch the fights on tv cause they love to give farangs in the audience lots of air time. Thanks in advance.

Get there by one at the latest, or you will struggle to get a seat, even then you may be too late.

Tip the doorman LOL, if its full you dont get in, simply wait for someone to come out then you go in.

If you get there late it will be standing room only.

Ch 7 is about a 10-15 minute walk from Chatuchak market, go to the market in the morning, have a bit of lunch then hit the boxing would be my plan of action.
