This email sent to myself and thousands of others around the world turns out to be a hoax (chain e-mail), but a dirty cruel one because there actually is a huge problem with what's going on there. Many of the facts reported in the hoax are based on the truth, past and future. Check out the following links to find out and take your own action. Just to inform any air breathing species About this serious matter....

The congress of Brazil is about to vote (2004) on a law that will reduce the area of the Amazon jungle to 50% of its present size. It will only take you ONE MINUTE to read the following and to add your name to the list before passing this on to your email list of contacts.

The area to be deforested is about 4 times the size of Portugal and they propose to designate it mainly for agriculture and cattle grazing. All the wood they take out will be sold on the international market as chips by big multinational companies.

The truth is that the ground that is covered by the Amazon jungle is useless without its forest cover. It is highly acidic and very susceptible to flooding. In fact more than 160,000 square kilometres of land previously deforested for agriculture and grazing have been abandoned and are converting to desert. This reduction in the forest cover (to convert to chips) signifies a significant increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which will aggravate climate change already suffered by the planet.

We simply cannot allow this to happen.
