It's the first time I've seen anyone on a motorcycle use a 'child-safety seat'. Better than what's typically done....have the child sit on some jury-rigged front seat and hold on to the handlebars or sit behind mom and grab ahold of her waist.

Okay, quick......how many falangs do you know here that use certified child-safety seats in their vehicles? How many Americans do you know back in the US that don't use child-safety seats?

Yep also much safer then having the child up front in between mom and the front handlebars where it can get crushed if she does hit something at even a minor impact if the baby is in front of her it would get hurt far worse or even killed now as it is she is acting as protection for the child in case of more minor incident.

why is the op so close to the motorbike!!!!! What would happen if the lady hit a pot hole or something (does not matter if have baby or not why so close)? Motorbikes have same right on roads.

I'm not sure about the intention of this topic. Is it to slag off on people who do silly things? I can think of many stupid things I see happen all the time. Drinking and driving is just one of many. Owning an automobile with no place to park it would be another. It is easy to be smug when owning a car or truck, but most Thais do not have that luxury. They try to get by with what little they have. Most often that means having a scooter. If every Thai owned a big car or truck the whole country would come to a stand still with no place to move. As it is now it's hard to drive along any road in Thailand without trying to get around traffic jambs caused by parked vehicles.

Yup, there are many funny things you might see when driving or riding in Asia. But that is just one of many things that make it so delightful.

Meaning: It's perfectly sound and correct if Farang display such activities......but if it was Thai?

No, meaning that it is surprising to see a Caucasian riding like this. That the Thais in the OP's car were amazed, surprised, shocked is a joke - I'm sure they were just being polite and were searching for what the OP found amazing

Were you the one taking the pic whilst driving? Ironic right?

Yes, indeed. Driving with one hand on the camera/phone, not looking where he is going, driving too close to a motorbike

This is called foot-in-mouth didease
