May 15, 201115 yr Hello, I am visiting my son in the US, Portland, OR. We want to install flashing between the house siding (composite) and the free-standing carport roof (corrugated fiberglass). He has a piece of thin aluminum sheet metal about 16" wide that we could make use of, or we can buy new material. The objective is to keep water from the carport roof from running down the side of the house. If we use screws to attach the sheet metal to the house, can they be wood screws with a tapered head or should the surface of the screw that is in contact with the metal be flat? Any suggestions on the simplest approach? Thanks a lot, Tom

May 15, 201115 yr Wouldn't have a picture would you? Without seeing it, it's hard to give you advice. I assume the carport roof falls below the house roof line. Or are they on the same level? If there is room between the carport and house, think about using plastic rain gutters. They are cheap. Don't nail. Nails provide a pathway for water no matter how tight you think they are. You need a minimum of 18" up on each side if you use flashing. 2 feet is better. And the flashing has to go under the shingles or the fiberglass panels. And if done incorrectly you'll have bigger problems. Check some self help books and you'll get some pretty simply ideas. Edited May 15, 201115 yr by Mrjlh
