Gps For Honda

Featured Replies

I realise that there may well be a thread somewhere answering my quesion and if so apologies for not discovering it so far. I'm looking for a reasonable quality and reasonablely priced gps for my little honda bike but the only units obviously designed for these are the Zumo units which although I'm sure are excellent are way outside my budget.Think I'd have to sell my bike to afford one ! Does anyone know of any worthwhile alternatives. The small mom n pop stores around my local Big C have some unfamiliar ( to me at least ) brands so am very wary of these.Anyone have any ideas. Thanks for any and all info.

The Garmin eTrex is an affordable unit. There are many different models so you have to be careful and know what you are buying. I have an eTrex Legend CX. It is waterproof, has a color display and will run about 30 hours on two AA batteries. I wouldn't buy one without a memory card and a color display.

There are many mounting methods available with RAM being a good brand. The older models like the one I have do not have the high sensitivity antenna. I have found no problems with that and the little unit is very accurate. It does sometimes lose the signal in Bangkok but is fine out of Bangkok. It is small enough to carry in your pocket.

Garmin 60 series.. The latest is the 62 but to be perfectly honest I am still super happy with my few year old 60csx.

One of the best purchasing choices I have made.. Works great for bikes and does work (although not as well) for car.

I also have a GPSmap 60 Cx. I agree that it is a better unit, in fact it may be the toughest unit Garmin ever made. It definitely keeps and holds a signal better than any other GPS I have ever had. I didn't recommend the 60 Cx because it is quite a bit more expensive than the eTrex.

Agreed its not the cheapest.. But I would say the price (outside of Thailand) is only a small level up from the lowest end models and a far far cry from the Zumo pricing. Can be found for a couple hundred bucks online (outside of thailand).

I love mine, its the perfect balance of good battery life, easy to find AA batts, small non touchscreen screen (hence the battery life), ruggedized and weather proof, etc etc etc travel partner and bike unit. I know lots of riders agree with that. Its not the cheapest, but neither is it 'that' much more.

i would agree that the 60 csx is an excellent choice it works well with all the thailand and laos gps maps that we use.

garmin have done away with the distance to the next turn function on the 62s which i find crazy, on the other hand the ability to trf routes wirelessly between 2 garmin 62s's is an amazing function that we used a lot in laos last week in the jungle when the rain came and we needed to alter the routes

Thankyou all.Went down to Eagle for advice and got my new toy !

I've used a 60CSx on the 2nd half of my trip, from Thailand to Timor Leste and around NZ. It works well.

The bicycle bracket is adequate, but it does wear due to vibration on the bike. I strongly suggest you cram a short bit of rubber band between the 2 cradle parts and glue another into the cradle, so they can't move. Works wonders to preserve them.

Cheers,

Peter.
