Win 7 To Xp Networking

WIN 7 to XP NETWORKING help!

I am trying to access my "D" drive on my networked Windows 7 Pro computer

FROM my networked Windows XP Professional computer both are on Home group.

I can access my XP computer from window 7 computers but I cannot access window 7 from Xp

Both computers have password turned off.

My XP computer denies access as they say I do not have the needed "administration permissions"

However I have checked all the boxes for share and PERMISSIONS.

I would be very appreciative  if anyone can point me in the right direction

I use some mixes of Computors, all a bit iffy to me,so i just download Firefox, that seems to pick up all the glitches you mention...

Why would FF sort out glitches in homegroup networking and sharing ?

OP, I had the same issue, I gave up in the end, all my PCs/netbooks/laptops are running win7 now, it all just "works".

Configure Windows 7 advanced sharing settings as follows:

- Turn on network discovery

- Turn on file and printer sharing

- Use 128-bit encryption

- Turn off password sharing

Then add the "Everyone" group in NTFS permissions...

I set up a network for a friend and we came across the same problems when trying to get these os to communicate, after hours a simple restart of both computers magically cured the problem all files and folders accessible by both computers(of course network setup complete which it sounds like you have done ).

Also some very good tutorials on youtube aimed at this problem , hope this helps good luck.

We had the same problem last year when my son installed Win7. All other PCs are on XP.

In Win7 you have to leave the homegroup and disable the homegroup service since the homegroup only works with other Win7 PCs!

After this is done you can set up a group with a different name.

The attached doc file explains how it is done. I got this one from askvg.com/how-to-disable-homegroup....

I also printed an important file from the MS knowledge base which explains everything (it is easy) but I did not save the file or the link.

The title in the print-out is:

Windows 7 Net5work printing problems, Set up file/printer sharing.

I tried to find the article but no luck.

Homegroup_delete1.doc

Since I can't find the article online I just scanned my print-out with all my notes.

We followed the instructions exactly and now everything is working.

We did set up a new work-group under the name HOME (note: without the word group as part of the name)
