KABUL (BNO NEWS) -- An Afghan television station on Monday claimed that the spiritual leader of the Taliban, Mullah Omar, was killed in Pakistan late last week.

The report from Tolo News, a private television channel, could not immediately be confirmed. Tolo News said, citing an Afghan National Directorate of Security source, that Omar was shot dead in Pakistan on Saturday.

Two spokesmen for the Afghan Defense Ministry and Afghan President Hamid Karzai were both unable to confirm or deny the report. "Just like you, we heard it on a local TV. I don't know how much truth is there in this," Karzai's spokesman said.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was also unable to confirm or deny Tolo News' report. "[We have] no reporting on our end. We've just heard the same media reports and are looking into them," an ISAF spokesperson said.
