New Zealander caught 'planking' on railway tracks

WELLINGTON (BNO NEWS) -- A New Zealander was recently caught 'planking' on railway tracks in South Auckland as a train approached him, the New Zealand Press Association (NZPA) reported on Wednesday.

Few details about the incident were released, according to NZPA, but the incident - which ended safely - comes just days after an Australian man fell seven stories to his death when planking on his balcony.

Planking involves a person lying straight, face down, with the arms beside the body and fists tightly clenched, impersonating a plank, preferably in a bizarre location. The results are then posted on social networking websites such as Facebook, where the most bizarre and dangerous ones are 'liked'.

NZPA did not say when the latest planking incident happened, and police would not release details in fears it could lead to copycats. A KiwiRail spokeswoman told NZPA the incident took place in South Auckland, although it did not involve a KiwiRail line.

In addition to the fatal accident earlier this month, a 20-year-old Australian man was critically injured last week when he was thrown from a speeding car on which he was 'planking'. Authorities there have urged people to avoid dangerous situations when planking.
