A Democrat Party canvasser escaped unscathed from an attack late Wednesday night by a gang who fired at his Bangkok home with semiautomatic weapons.

Jaroen Jehsaman, 69, said yesterday that he has been supporting the Democrats for 40 years in Bueng Kum district. This time he was helping candidate Panich Vikitsreth.

Seven bullets, one from an AK47, hit his home.

Police also found 14 spent cartridges in an area across the road, along with a fully loaded magazine for an M16 assault rifle, a pair of flipflops and a guitar case.

Quoting witnesses, Jaroen said an unknown number of men arrived in a sedan, pickup truck and two motorcycles. The details of their licence plates were unknown

Pol LtColonel Aphiwat Chettha, the case investigator, said police were focusing on politics and Jaroen's womanising as possible motives for the shooting.

Police have also revealed a blacklist of 75 career hitmen who they say may take contracts before and after the July 3 election.

Monetary rewards will be offered for information leading to their arrests, and to officers who make the arrests.

With a Bt100,000 bounty on their heads, the first 29 are considered "dangerous and highly active" in the 10 provinces put on a watch list for likely political violence.

The remaining 46 are "less dangerous and active", with a Bt50,000 bounty.

National Police chief General Wichean Potephosree instructed all officers to stay impartial ahead of the general election.

He warned that those providing personal escort services or taking part too closely in political rallies would face disciplinary action or transfers.

Prize money was also on offer for metropolitan police stations that suppress major crimes or make arrests of key suspects from now until July 3.

The highest is Bt50,000 for violent crimes with politics involved and the lowest is for election fraud and infractions.

The list contains crimes in seven categories - general violent crime; murder, assault and rape; hitmen and mastermind; possession of unauthorised weapons; crimes with suspects on the run; drugs; and election fraud and violations.

So that mean after the election they are free to do their jobs again?

contact Dog the Bounty Hunter, he'll get 'em.......

Sorry, he has been arrested by the Fashion Police and is currently serving life for assault on the sensibilities of cultured persons. He is facing further charges for unbelievable BS spreading for his claim that his nickname was not because he was a prison informer, but god spelled backwards because of his religious nature. The phone call, I'll leave alone.

This has got to be the funniest story of the week!

"......... police were focusing on politics and Jaroen's womanising as possible motives for the shooting." "Jaroen Jehsaman, 69,......."

He must have an illegal supply of Viagra.

"............... an unknown number of men arrived in a sedan, pickup truck and two motorcycles." so somewhere between 4 and 40, who fired "14 spent cartridges" plus an unknown number in non-ejecting weapons, and managed "Seven bullets, ........, hit his home." and manged to drop "... a fully loaded magazine for an M16....". Hey, that's 30 rounds - if they fired those they might have hit it a couple more times.

They get so excited one guy loses his shoes, and he, or maybe another one of them, leaves behind his guitar case. What's the odds his name is on the inside of the lid?

As it was a covert night attack, I guess that they left their red shirts at home.:D

So, at least 14 shots were fired and only 7 hit the house? I suppose that these terrorists were among the less dangerous hit men being hunted. Forget any US involvement. If there had been there would have been friendly fire victims.

The guy is 69 and somebody wants him taken down for being a womaniser? What is he on? Where can it be bought?

Isn't that the one who "invaded" Cambodia together with the yellow shirts and got arrested there? :whistling:

Could be the same person, same name. Freed a while ago unlike k. Veera and k. Ratree who are still in jail in Phom Phen. Mind you it wasn't with the 'yellow shirts', but a splinter party TPN. With seven people hardly an invasion force even on a border visit ;)
