Bangkok flood threat declines; forecasters warn of storms heading to South

BANGKOK, Oct 9 (TNA) - Winter is now approaching the northern, northeastern and central regions but the South may be hit by a series of depressions as storms move from the South China Sea to the Gulf of Thailand, according to Meterological Department chief Suparerk Tansriratanawong,

The director general of the Meteorological Department said that the rainy season in three regions--the North, Northeast and Central--is about to end.

The amount of rainfall is starting to decline, Mr. Suparerk said, adding that high tides were experienced in Bangkok today but there was not much rain, leading his technical staff to conclude there will be no flood in the capital.

But the upper southern region may be hit by heavy rains in October and November as a series of storms will move from the South China Sea to the Gulf of Thailand, he said.

A high pressure system from China moved into the upper North today, causing temperatures in the north and northeast to fall 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.

The weather in both regions became cooler with less rainfall while there is considerable rain in the Central and the Eastern regions.

More rain is expected in the South with a heavy storm in the Gulf. A small craft warning has been issued, and should take extra caution in making a journey during the next one or two days.

Anyone feel the 'shift' in the atmosphere on the night of Oct 9th? There was a big fresh wind similar to around Songkran time, when the monsoon pressures shift. Also, the clouds are now moving in the exact opposite direction from pre-Oct. Same every season change.

Or, maybe just my imagination... :o:D
