Was wondering if anyone has seen, either hither or yon...yellow plastic tubes that would fit over a regular flourescent light tube to make it into an undesirable light for bugs to flock (fly enmasse) to. I have seen something like them installed at various bus stations, but when I ask or better yet....show someone a real picture (thanks Google images) they just get that real confused look about them. I have found yellow bug lights that screw into a socket, but would like to make the FL's in my breezeway, a bit more conducive to setting under outside, in the evenings and not get suffocated by bugs. We had yellow bug lights around when I was a wee lad, back stateside, only in the incandescent model. They do seem to work. Living on the extreme edge of the village, right out in the rice paddies/corn fields, we get the bugs 'aplenty. Right after a good rain, the gope (frogs) are loud enough to drown out the village PA. It is music to my ears. And when the chi-koons (sp?)...really large cricket looking critters that have mandables that can actually pinch you...get to going....it is really loud. Another seasonal culinary insect delight over here. The locals stir fry ala tempura style, rip off the outer carapice, take the legs off and pull out that little end piece from the anterior part and just go to town on them. They are quite tasty. ett

I did buy coloured sheaths for flouros way back when I lived in NK.

so they are available in Thailand.

I got mine from one of those packed to the rafters elec wholesale shops that tend to be sited in the shop houses around market perimeters. Have a stroll from the new clock tower through to the overbrook area, Im sure you'll find such a place.

I am not sure about yellow plastic covers but you can certainly buy yellow flourecent tubes, I have two installed and they certainly are a help. I bought mine in Global in Chiang Mai so maybe this is not much help for you.

Thanks for the lead. If I can not find something that will work in CR, I will definitely have a look next time I am in CM. Either way, I hope to get a yellow, bug free light....somehow. Again, thank you for the tip. ett

did you find what you was looking for Extex ?

I got some yellow plastic covers/sleeves a few days ago from a small electrical shop in Chiang Khong. they were 15 baht each to cover the long tubes. I wanted them for small tubes so just cut them in half.

I suspect most small shops selling mainly lighting would stock them.

Don't know that "small shops selling mainly lighting would stock them" - recently looking,

I found that not to be so.

I did get a good bug-killing light at the Chinese electronics shop opposite the entrance to the main market.

They're great there, although the products sometimes aren't (beware "Made in China"!)...

a flashlight with emergency light for black-outs doesn't work (I bought 2; one works,

the flashlight on the other doesn't although the emergency light, which I bought it for, does...

nevermind, could have to do with having a couple kids who love to play with flashlights)

and the little "radios" (they aren't) for playing mp3 tunes are simply pathetic

(I got something much better at the electronics shop at Central/Robinson).

The bug-light may be bigger than wanted, but at least it works well!

OK, So How many do you two need ? I'll take orders and if they still have them, I'll drop them off at Chiang Rai Saddlebags on thursday morning before noon. They have several different colours I believe.
