May I ask for current advice or re-direction to a similar thread please? You must become frustrated with same queries again and again, and I do apologise.

After some 4 years basing in LOS I'd like to relocate home to Australia with my Thai wife.

Before we visit Embassy should I know anything to keep things smooth? Is an agent advisable - I'm not a wealthy man - are these agencies expensive - value? What should I budget for the exercise with/ without agent? Embassy/application costs?

Relevant points may include;

*Married for 3 years.

*Visited Australia together for my daughter's wedding. My wife was granted a tourist visa without query.

*Have shared an apartment near BKK with my wife for longer than the term of our marriage, although I usually go to KL and Singapore for a week each on a monthly basis for work.

*My wife owns a house and farm. Also a newish pick-up and motorcycle. Has money in bank. She has 2 teenage sons who do not wish to come with us.

Don't want to bother you guys with details that may be irrelevant. What omitted details may have a bearing? What factors affect her/our application? Any ideas on realistic time-frame.

Really hope you can give us some guidance.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew.

Ok, your relationship is sound.

Assuming that she is healthy and will pass the medical and the Thai police check, this is going to take about 10 months for the application to be processed + the time to prepare the app initially. The application would be a 309 offshore partner visa.

If do yourself, familiarise yourself with the immigration act and especially the regulations. Just google them. And seek advice here (how to tell good from bad is a problem though).

Or you could use an agent. Be very carefull, there are many rogues out there who will take your money and provide little for it. (or worse - poor advice). Some even post on here. PM me if you wish.

My Thai wife's app will be lodged on Monday, I am using an agent, he is great. I don't know what prices you will face though.

Best to lodge the app with the VFS in BKK. will cost you $1735 I might be a few dollars out, but that amount is close.

You can pay in Australia to save a couple of bucks also.

You will need photos of you together, although with a relationship as long as yours, you may not need to include as many as others with much shorter relationships ie. me

Are both your names on the appartment lease? That will help also. You will have to do relationship statements and this is where reading the regs will help.

Not sure what else to add. I am sure that others will add also.

Thanks so much Turboadam.

Confident that we will be seen as bonafide but the 10 months is a reality check.

Hope all goes well with yours mate.

Hi andrew, I just found out that because the browser that I use (here at work) is so outdated, that I cannot send PMs as the page doesn't load correctly.

The 10 months is stated on the immigration website. I don't think anyone knows at this point what the real length of processing is - even immi. It also varies from office to office and with anomolies (?) such as 2 couple lodging at the same office within 1 week of each other and 1 gets theirs in 3 months the other in 7 months. Were the applications that much different in quality of what was supplied???????

So yes could be 10 months could be less or more.

You cannot do anything to expidite the process other than supply a good, complete application.

Regularly bothering the case officer seems to be detrimental to that couples processing time also.

Yeah I'm Aussie. If you want to send me an email - [email protected]
