Buyer Beware

Featured Replies

Any potential buyers please take care.

After many emails with the seller I agreed to buy the laptop advertised in the classifieds url below

http://classifieds.thaivisa.com/electronics/computers-for-sale/sony-vgn-cs33g-104232.html

We agreed a price and I duly transferred money totalling 10,000 BHT into a bank account on Tuesday

I am still waiting for this item. It has been impossible to communicate with the seller either by email or mobile phone

The matter has been reported to the Thai Police to hopefully help any would be buyers in the future

First, thanks for the informations. Secondly, buying things on line is a "risk" sometimes. Your case should be handle by the police BUT I think it's a good chance the police can trace the culprit because you tt to a Thai bank account.

I cannot believe you purchased something from Thaivisa classifieds and didn't go and collect it and pay and collect the goods at the same time. You don't have any protection that the likes of ebay or Paypal provide.

This will be a lesson well learnt and I doubt you will get any money back at all once the police have got involved, I will be suprised if they even do a proper investigation for just 10,000 baht, also the bank account has most probably been high jacked, or opened with a fake id card.

I would never recommend doing this and it will most likely end horrible but, you could always look the same seller's information e.g. bank account, products sold, telephone number, writing style, recorded voice conversations about the future transaction to be made ( as any weary customer would like to have voice confirmation about where to send money or what number to call because eye sight is failing or just lack of understanding of internet). Make a new one and then meet the "alleged" suspect with authorities, lawyers, cameras, etc. However what i suggested would more than likely end badly, anyways it would cost alot more than the selling price of the laptop to do all of this.

The only way I buy something ,I go look at it

Darn, There goes a good way to toss away some money.........

TV should be able to help, they will have his internet ISP

This happened to me on Baht/sold and they came up with all the info you wanted and they sent him a mail saying they would contact the police,, i got my money back. If they can’t help, i think it’s because they won’t.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to the post.

My parents always taught me to trust people.

I can see now I was mad to go with it

I have to say thankyou to the Bangkok Bank in Hang Dong who helped me as much as they could and the Manager there was only too happy to do the translating with the Thai Police

The show is not over yet - the fat lady has not done her song!!

Hi

Have you asked TV to help you out???? and what did they say?????

Hi

Have you asked TV to help you out???? and what did they say?????

I think, that won't help a lot.

If I would be the scammer, I would use different I-Net Cafes/Proxies/TOR, for things like these.

But NEVER EVER my own Internet line without any kind of protection!

But maybe worth a try. Better than nothing.

Wish you the best
