I am surprised to learn that you can use MMS with TOT 3G

What phone do you have? Let me know if you get MMS working (send/receive) on True.

using Nokia N70 with iKool 3G

I called iKool and they mentioned that MMS does not work for 3G

Just curious, why did you ask for the True MMS settings if you have iKool?

Here is a link to the True MMS OTA system. The Nokia N70 is on the pull-down list. http://www.mywds.com/worp/ota/orangeta/phonefirst

FWIW, I have an Android phone and cannot get MMS working with True, I can neither send nor receive an MMS. If I put this SIM in a simple handset I can both send and receive MMSes. It seems like this is a known problem for both my model (Samsung Captivate) and perhaps other variants. I also tried a One-2-Call SIM and could not send or receive an MMS.

I also tried a iMobile 3GX SIm and could not send/receive an MMS. As I understand it none of the TOT 3G MVNOs allow MMS.

Well, I finally (~ 6 months) figured out how to send an MMS from my Android phone - Samsung Captivate (i897), with a True SIM.

Step 1. I used the OTA Configurator . http://www.mywds.com/worp/ota/orangeta/phonefirst I chose a model close to mine, Samsung i9003 Galaxy SL, chose "Set up your phone for MMS Only", add the security code and your phone number. Within ~ 60 sec. you will get a Configuration Message (like a SMS), open it, launch the enclosure, use the password provided. This will essentially create a MMS APN:

Name True GPRS MMS

APN mms

Proxy not set

Port not set

User name true

Password true

Server not set

MMSC http://mms.truelife.com:8002/

MMS proxy 10.4.7.39

MMS port 8080

MCC 520

MNC 99

Authentication type PAP

APN type apn

2.) Force the phone into GSM Data (2G:GPRS/EDGE) mode. This can be done several ways: Settings, Wireless and network, Mobile netowrks, Network mode, GSM only.

3.) Create and send an SMS, ask someone to send you an MMS. It works, finally. Forcing the phone to GSM data, from 3G seems to be the step causing so many issues.

***edited to add: I can sucessfully send an MMS, still cannot receive one. :( Frick.

  • 4 months later...

Just for a heads up it looks like TOT has changed their settings a bit from when they started up. This is what they are recommending now. Also I believe MMS only works on an actual TOT3G sim and only after you contact them and ask them to enable the service.

Data

Name: TOT3G

APN: internet

APN Type: default,supl

MMS

Name: TOT3G mms

APN: mms

MMSC: http://mms.tot3g.net:8002/

MMS HTTP Proxy: 192.168.0.72

MMS Port: 8080

APN Type: mms
