True Move Accuses DTAC Of Operating Illegally

True is jealous because DTAC decided not to even worry about 3G and go directly to 4G, which is where the world is now going while Thailand dithered. They just offered a spectrum swap in exchange for getting 4 G started... must have been a punch in the gut for True, as DTAC would suddenly be quite ahead of True, and so True loses face.

Seems True couldn't think of anything better than to try this accusation. Sour grapes from True at DTAC thinking ahead, and not navel gazing, and attempting dirty tricks to get minuscule advantage over others.

DTAC Telenor and it's local lawyers must without question know the Thai investment laws and be in compliance. Too big and experienced not to.

This should just be thrown out after considering the source and the timing.

Groan...... another nutter showing sheer ignorance. As soon as you talk about 4G, it shows how little you know about the subject.

4G- It's maybe not true 4G as the ITU requires 4G to be 100Mps, and the current "4G" being rolled out (LTE - long term evolution) peaks at about half that speed currently. What will be officialy accepted as 4G won't be really available until we have LTE Advanced...

However LTE is being called 4G by the marketing people and is up and running in parts of Sweden, Norway, Estonia and the US already. Along with announced rollouts in places like Australia, Croatia, Sri Lanka, etc. Phones are out and everything. (Look up the HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Droid Charge, and the LG Revolution for instance - all currently for sale in countries where LTE is being rolled out.)

The best thing about LTE though... Virtually everyone has accepted it as a standard. Finally we'll have phones that work in Korea, Japan, the US and Europe (and as a result, the rest of the world). There was a rival (UMB), but development on that has ceased...

The UK is a bit of a laggard in Europe, but even there, the spectrum auction for LTE has been announced for next year, and there are trials already happening.

Maybe you should try Google before calling someone else ignorant.

Nutter... Thanks Bud, same to you.

I know enough to know that

4G as 'a name and a functional concept' is,

as noted above here, IS being rolled out in several places now. Even if it isn't realizing the original full 4G spec.

no matter, LTE LTA w2hat ever name, it is not 3G , and is what is coming at the moment, not last generation. DTAC is trying to jump past the already old 3G, especially considering lag time to instal etc.

DTAC announced this week that it would like to swap unused bandwidth in exchange for getting 4G directly and skipping 3G.

That this was announced is fact,

and that True suddenly dropped this bomb days later is also fact. The likelihood of this being ONLY coincidence is negligible.

So maybe this 'nutter' reads the papers and can join the dots.

PS I can read a spec sheet, and comprehend the basics of muli-plexed digital transmissions, and this was not needed to connect DTAC's request and Trues attack on DTAC.

Tue has been trying to put the tongs to DTAC for years in 3G, and DTAC just put a shot across the True Bows that scared them enough to panic. Hence this filed charge.

Play nice, maybe you're likely not really the genius you imagine you are.

I believe it was Sun Tsu in the Art of War " when attacking, consider your defence". If your holding a knife to some ones throat, but you have publicly known issues ( illegal shareholding ) - its a bit stupid.

For those who say the law is unfair, look at your own countries - is every business open to all nationals ? . i.e. I know some guys of Chinese origin who were banned from a military deal in the US. duhhhh.

In most respects foreign nationals are able to perform any business transactions as us 'natives' in my home-country.

But it would be fun if we had laws altered to always mirror the nations where people came from...

Has absolutely nothing to do with DTACs request and Trues attack on DTAC.

It warms the cockles on my heart to read how members here can have an open, frank and polite conversation without even saying BS once :)

TrueMove accuses DTAC. Wating for DTAC to accuse TRue, DTAC/True to accuse CAT, CAT putting the finger on TOT, TOT fingering CAT and CAT making a rude hand gesture to True and DTAC. While this goes on and will go on for a while, I'll be off for a moment to get a beer. Call me when tensions increase and blood pressures rise :)

Maybe first question :-

Q1) is GDP per capita, the quoted countries and Thailand are very different. Given the need for handset subsidies ( as LTE handsets are few and far between - why am i saying this...you googled that already...duhhh ), how would the Google/News paper boys propose to make an economically viable network? Do the maths, and LTE in SEA is a loosing proposition for the next 5-10 years ( longer than DTAC's remaining concession period :) )

ooops...i forgot, the rich westerners will be charges 3x the local rate :)

As soon as DTAC receive 3g/4g or whatever True mobile is finished and they know it. So inevitably they will do anything to stop it.. True is 100% Thai and boy the cracks show because of it. Dreadful customer service, coverage, Internet, and with a cable TV service that's nothing short of embarrassing.

But they still want top dollar for all that shoddy crap they re-badge as communication services! Greedy Thailand at its worst.

I go along with your comment. I think they are truely bad quality as a service and truely mediocre in their support - most times anyway - though whenever I cal them about a problem, you could be excused for thinking that they will "teleport" right out and put everything in order - not true also unfortunately. Their sat TV package is pathetic to say the least and on a par with the weekly soaps that are shown on it, unless you pay top Baht for the VIP package, then it is so over priced for what is received, it's scandalous! There must be literally (truely) 100s of pages here on "the quality" of their internet service too. The statement they make about no guaranties for the speed (or lack of it) when accessing international web sites, still does not explain why I can't get my "paid for" speed when opening local sites either. I hope DTAC do get this concession, True will then have to put their money where their mouth is and pull up their socks, or go the rest of the way down (not too much further) in a cloud of sht/dust! I understand the Thais wanting to protect the commercial sector from a foreign take over and don't blame them. Unfortunately however, this also protects the pathetic, nauseous, poorly written Thai soaps and such too. They really do need some foreign competition and ideas to encourage their script writers and such to produce watchable programs - and they can produce them, as I have seen some really exciting, very well written and produced movies, that are worth watching, but aimed towards the international audience. And yes, they were all Thai producers, directors, writers along with some very talented Thai actors - and there are many, believe me. Lastly. The other really annoying thing about Trues mobile package too, is the huge amount of advertising and rubbish offers, that come in every hour or so, either in the form of a call, MMS or an SMS with your monthly package. I thought you only got that on pre-paid packages? I almost never get anything from DTAC on my phone, which only has 99 Baht pre-paid Sim card. My wife's phone on the other hand, with her "True monthly" account, is forever going off with some add/promotion etc. Best all round I feel, if DTAC can beat these charges from True, who are false, and get the 4G wireless thing up and running, I think we will see much better service from True and we will all benefit.

If people are not happy for what ever reason or have preferences, i have no problem with that. Its when ppl honestly believe in the marketing hype ( " DTAC wants to roll out 4G" ), is just shows how gullible they are. What is said to the papers and what's reality are 2 different things. Not only would DTAC not ( let me re-state..... NEVER ) do 4G under their existing concession which runs out in a few years, if they understand the economics of 4G and in particular the high equipment costs and the high subsidies required as there are no hand sets, they would know that 4G in a low GDP market does not make sense.

A farmer family (most likely his kids) up country would be ecstatic with i.e. 1MB wireless broad band connection and could afford it, but the handsets / service cost for a much higher speed link would be out of their reach. Its an elitist view that LTE would be rolled out nationwide, and in the future you will see 3G nationwide, and 4G in hotspots in urban areas ( but sorry, the latter are the experts views ( not me ), who dont use google)

HSPA + can do 80 MB/s , what is the speed of the current LTE ? :) ( not future versions ).

They are facing high install costs to put in 3G which hasn't been significantly installed. Why pay high install costs for outgoing technology, since Thailands so far behind the curve due to infighting? Why not put your capital into something looking forward not backwards or sideways?

3G on the way out?..... i dont think sooooooo. This is "the man on the street" understanding, not reality or what the experts are saying.( and that's why we still have 2G in Europe and advanced markets). 3G is here to stay for at least 10 years or more, i believe the upgrade path in planning is to around 100Mb/s. Not enough for the average Thai ? 4G will only be used as a hotspot filler, mainly in urban high value area's.

To answer your last question, a 3G rollout for a green field now with an upgrade to LTE in 5 Years from now is financially better prospect than going for LTE now ( see previous posts why ), especially in a low GDP per capita country. It will still be a problem as what LTE frequency will be used in Thailand?

To put it into perspective, its a bit like saying we have the technology to drill in 10 km deep oceans for oil and gas, yes its cutting edge, but does it make financial sense. If the customers are not willing to pay 100 baht per litre of petrol, its a pretty dumb plan even though technically cutting edge.
