JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- A former Indonesian minister was sentenced on Friday to 16 months in prison on corruption charges, prosecutors said.

Paskah Suzetta, former National Development and Planning Minister, along with several others, were found guilty of receiving bribes while serving as lawmakers in connection with the 2004 selection of central bank deputy governor Miranda Goeltom, the Antara news agency reported.

Others sentenced alongside Paskah for also accepting bribes in the form of traveler's checks and long public service include Ahmad Hafiz Zawawi, Marthin Brian Seran, Boby Suhardiman and Anthony Zeidra Abidin.

Prosecutors sought a prison term of two and a half years for Paskah and two years for the other participants, which also included Baharuddin Aritonang, Asep Ruchiman Sudjana, TM Nurlif, Reza Kamarulla and Hengky Baramuly. However, they received a lighter prison term due to their confessions.

In addition to the 16-month prison term, Paskah and the others were fined Rp 50 million ($5,850) or an additional 3-month prison term if they fail to pay.
