June 24, 201115 yr Thanks for that, HB. And here I thought it was just a made-up word. You learn something new every day. When I left the UK about 35 years ago, such words were totally unknown and not anticipated within the English language. Regrettably this seems to have deteriorated over the years to a collection of ancient Anglo-Saxon expletives and acronyms. My daughter is a language teacher and is finding it more and more difficult to translate the English usage of her pupils into French or Spanish, due to the poor usage in English.
June 24, 201115 yr Come come, Shakespeare is riddled with the things. He is now considered a master of the language but at the time he was just a dirty bawd. Times change and so does language. Far worse than these kinds of changes are the people who use language to suppress and conceal, altering the meanings of words in an almost proganda-esque nature in order to then discredit people or ideas.
June 24, 201115 yr Well, i studied Shakespeare and have never come accross assclown. Learn something new everyday. Also the fact that i can't spell accross. The thing i hate most is the way people on forums make fun of others. Not knowing that english is not their first language. I would like those people who mock to go on a French, Flemish or Spanish Forum - and you know? You will get help, because they care. But some of you guys are so perfect in the English language that us mortals have no existence. Not to mention your perfect Thai... Now having read what an Assclown is, I think I shall use it in every other half hour conversation. Thanks. Edited June 24, 201115 yr by Patsycat

June 30, 201115 yr Assclown seems to to be a modern word to highlighting one's intolerance of others whose humour we don't share. Unfortunately it sounds a bit ... rude, unpleasant, in a sort of buttock-clenching way... I did like the term 'buffoonary', which I first misread as buffoonery, but I realise now it is probably a sort of encyclopaedia - Dr Best's Buffoonary and Compendium of Irritating and Peurile Pranks I shall check in Kinokinoyu...
