Letter Of Affirmation Of Freedom To Marry?

Featured Replies

Hi to you all, my Fiancee and I are just going through the VAF4A Settlement Visa in preparation of her moving over here to the UK and amongst other things, she has indicated to me that I will need to provide a "Letter of Affirmation of Freedom to Marry"

I am 40 years old, single and have never been married so DO I need to provide this letter and if so, how do I obtain one?

Many thanks.

Paul

If you will be marrying in Thailand you will need one; Thai law requires any foreigner marrying in Thailand to complete this affirmation, whether they have been married before or not.

See this guidance from the British embassy for the full procedure.

However, if you are applying for a fiance visa and will be marrying in the UK then it is not required; though once in the UK each of you will need to declare to the registrar that you are free to marry.

Chiang Wattana Road Bangkok. The government Offices there are massive and are easily found.

Take a taxi from Morchit Bus Station. You'll need all the bumph of ID. Once in the right Dept. they give you a quick interview with an Englsih speaking clerk. They do speak good English.

Next you are directed outside to wait in whatever queue and are then dealt with. usually you'll have to say give them 2-3 hours to complete it and collect it later that day.

There is a hotel to stay quite nearby called Jumbotel, 34/43 Chaeng Wattana Road, Laksi. Tel: 02-573-1240. It'll do for one night if you needed to stay over.

The process isn't at all difficult it just takes some time.

Also, if you do need to run around Bangkok [as we did] then you can do it. For example, we went there first, then to SalaDaeng for the TB cert; on the Bumrungrat Hospital; back to Sala Daeng, with the TB cert ; and on to Chaneg Wattana all in a day.

Good Luck.
