I have just had a super 3 days at this place. 500-950 Baht per night, either double room or apartment style.

Western Breakfast, right on the Mother River, 3 good restaurants within spitting distance, great staff, swimming pool, huge rooms both fan and aircon, frig/minibar at realistic prices.

Now wait for it.. including breakfast, 8 people from 3 families, with beer, softdrinks for the kids, snacks, etc etc etc... 4,000 baht.

Weep.Get the train to Nong Khai, or drive, it doesn't hurt.43 K down river from Nong Khai city.

Incredible. More to follow.. this one needs a story.

Call John 097 156 375 for bookings etc

Big Snake GuestHouse is fantastic. I highly recommend anyone in the area to head on down. John is a great and friendly guy and keeps his pool in tip top shape. The views are great. I would rank it a 5 star guesthouse at 2 star prices.

I will make it back up there again sometime in the future. I would highly recommend to people that if you want a quiet holiday in a beautiful area overlooking the MeiKong then take a train up to Nong Khai then a bus to Big Snake. Call John, he will give you all the details how to get there. You won't be disappointed!

The 43 km sounds about right. Well worth the trip. I live in Bangkok and if I want a quiet, peaceful, and relaxing vacation then this place would fit the bill. You are not far to check the sites out in Nong Khai and do a little exploring of small Issarn villages.

I think it is nice to look across the MeiKong and view Laos and the mighty river. There is even a paved walk way along the river.

I keep meaning on going up there. Just talking about it makes me miss the place! :o

That sounds the ticket! My wife's Mother's relatives live around Nongers, I have stayed in that area 7 or 8 times, the best value for food and lodgings I've had in Isaan, wifeys home town near Kalasin is pricey in comparison!

But I'm typing this from a dank cottage in deepest Oxfordshire....wish I was there... :o
