Hi all,

My condo's pool has become not so clear, the water is kinda troubled for the past 3 months.

They say it is rainy season and they clean it regularly and also looked surprised that I indeed intended to use it during rainy season also. I argued that I could see other pools water much cleaner than ours in my friend's place in Sukhumvit and that it was raining there too.

It got to a point that you could not see the bottom although it is only 150cm deep, it was not green any more, but just brownish mud like colour and frogs would jump happily in too while you swam.

I went and made a fuss about it at reception while they kept saying it was "OK" and keep repeating that they just cleaned it the day before and it was fine, that I could "go and play " which drives me bonkers, because I actually am the only person doing laps in this place, and they made it sound like I was just making a fuss just because I could not splatter about with my rubber duck

I had to drag them out of their office and put the girl in front of the murky water to ask her if she would dip in "that" pointing at the troubled water, she finally admit that it needed to be cleaned again.

I then wrote a mail to the management, who answered they will clean it.

It was cleaned, kinda, but the water is still not clear most of days, and now I can honestly not be bothered to go and complain any more and I am moving out to clearer waters.

I come to think it's because of the salt or chlorine or whatever you put in to keep to water from turning into a frogs pond.

I also don't see many people using the pool, which makes me wonder why they would pay extra to live in a place with pool, and most of thai people here that I see can't swim, which was confirmed by a conversation I had with one girl who came here to use her friend's pool.

I realized the water was mainly maintained because of me which obviously becomes high maintenance.

Are they being greedy on the chlorine ? Lazy ?

Is there an unsaid rule that says, we should not swim in rainy season ?

Why do Thai ppl take condos if they don't use the pool or the gym ?

you mean they rent them out?

It might surprise you many buy condos and never use them at all not just the pool or gym but the entire complex.

They are cutting cost on the maintenaince. Found out that maintaining a pool here starts from THB12,000 to infinity depending on the size of the pool. Once you terminate the yearly contract, be very sure that the filters and pumps will be unusable within 6 months. Guess that's happening at your condo now.

Take matters into your own hands instead of waiting around for the condo management to do something. Find out who the pool contractor is, call them yourself, and find out what the story is.

I am leaving at the end of the month, plus I don't speak thai .... just wanted to check what the story was and have your opinion cheers.

You could easily pick up a pool testing kit for small money and test the water yourself. If the pool is murky there's something wrong or it's not being taken care of. There's no difference in maintenance in my own pool just because it's the rainy season. But the way you describe it, "murky", makes me wonder if the pool suffers from high levels of bromine and/or baquacil. If this is the case you need more serious help than just a few cchlorine shocks...
