Hi TV,

My wife myself and our 1 year old daughter moved to BKK about 6 months ago and since then the majority of the issues i need help with have been solved with a quick google search leading to Thaivisa.com.

So i figured I would join up and start to learn more. I have read the forum rules and am aware of how netiquette works as I've been a member of other forums mostly car related for some time. My wife works at an embassy here in BKK and we live in the Lumpini park area...

I am playing house dad while trying to learn thai as quickly as i can as i hate not knowing the language of the land I am currently living in.... My wife and I met when she was a student in the states and decided to move to Thailand a couple years after we were married and here we are. Anyway looking forward to chatting with everyone.

Cheers, Archer jap.gif

Welcome and keep your head down. Don't worry too much about all the negative comments or nit-picking individuals. There is lots to see and enjoy in Thailand, but it's not anywhere similar to North America or Europe... and the sensible people wouldn't want it to be.

I'm familiar with those types of people.... They're on each and every forum. I tend to ignore them rolleyes.gif And learning thai is quite difficult IMO however I am using Rosetta Stone, A Thai iPhone app as well as my wife and all her family to help me! My first objective here is to learn the language.... I'm sure I will just later than I prefer.

Thanks for the welcome biggrin.gif

FYI, there's a classic car out at the Future Park Rangsit mall 23-26 June. Easy way to get there from Lumpini, other than taxi, is BTS SKYTRAIN to the end of the line at the MoChit Station, then taxi from there. Should be about 100 neat machines there, at least that's what was there last year.

I'll be there Friday, smaller crowd hopefully.

Oh, yes, regarding the Forum, there's a fair amount of misinformation posted but happily it gets corrected quickly, and a whole lot of good info. I've learn a lot here.

Yes, Welcome indeed but as you have been reminded by Mr Forbes there are America Bashers here as well as Thia Detractors.Enjoy the Lumpini Traffic. The Motoring Forum is short on humour, just serious Truck Talk mostly.Exept Transam and a few others who are light. No more nice Beef Steaks though once you leave Bkk. :jap:

Welcome! And best of luck with your Thai. I'm struggling....but love it here and am still trying.

When I moved here I also found TV to be of great help. If you ever need help with something, don't hesitate to contact one of the mods. We'll do what we can to assist. At the bottom of every forum is a list of the mods who focus on that area.

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,

And by opposing end them?

The first apt quote I could think of Archer :D

Good Luck with learning Thai, I am again making a determined effort, after a long time of inactivity,

Hey Archer - welcome aboard!

I recommend getting some children's books for learning Thai, and learn the alphabet. The good old fashioned ones with the interlined pages where you trace over the letters really do work. The best ones have a picture of the object for which the letter is named - lor ling for example has a picture of a Monkey, and so on.

Once you have this, you really can start sounding out stuff, and it is usually quite amusing for Thai people; they will all want to help!

Good luck!

Sa-wat-dee kraup ..Welcome to TV jap.gif

That's the Welsh version,Sawadee Crap is the English style, God knows what the Glasgow interpretation is. Be warned, if like me years ago learn the Kings, or Bangkok Thai then go North or far South the Genuine Locals don't understand you. All good fun, but it makes you jump at first..I use Thai Lao dialect mainly, and then go to "Hi So Thai" as they call it in BKK. Perhaps this will work for you. My Wife found me Songs in Hi Thai, that was a good way to learn, she translated them, and they are more genuine on emphasis and tone than pure translation. If you sing a Thai Song, you go Zero to Hero overnight, then look a Chump when you cant say anything afterwards. Also i found Thai Children can teach you more Thai quicker than most Adults,Girls seem the most keen on speaking English..So into the Deep End and Enjoy. Native English cant forgive the Welsh for their Road Signs,so we stole their Water.:partytime2:

Hey now, I prefer to be roasted only once I have had the chance to do some roasting myself whistling.gif

Since we all know that's not gonna' happen flame on laugh.gif My skin is thick..... But allow me to inform you that I'm sure I will provide an opportunity sooner than later.

And in regards to the English VS. Welsh thing: I just want to be on which ever team has girlfriend's.... And not the team that has sheep..blink.gif
