True Signal Via A Dish - Is It Possible Without A Contract?

Featured Replies

Hi There

Currently I live in an apartment in Bangkok and currently get a good True Package = without paying for it...

Three years ago when I moved in the Supervisor in the building sold me a receiver for 2500b and that was it. No more expense after that. I presume that everyone in the building could be hooked up via one subscription? no questions asked.

My receiver doesn't have a chip (apparently). It is an older style box. I still get english language via the remote.

I am now looking at moving to Pattaya and renting a house there.

My question - is it possible to buy a dish and get the signal hooked up and then use the box to obtain True for free again?

I can see around bangkok that on most of the apartment buildings there are a few dishes hanging off windows and I would imagine that these folks can't afford the subscription. (just a presumption - perhaps they all can afford 1500baht or so per month)

ok.. thanks in advance

Short answer --- No

Those "boxes" are illegal and only work with the analog stations (not the digital). True does not run around and disconnect the cable from each apartment/condo when they get their box back. The Sat. dishes will not work with the boxes. (Your landlord profited about 600 Baht on the sale of the box to you :)

Yes it is possible, but illegal.

There were people in Sydney selling dishes and you could watch PPV or any tv you wanted in the world as long as you get the chip installed.

So you just need to find someone who can do it for you.

But I warn you, it is illegal.

Discussing of illegal methods is not allowed.

The OP has the option of buying a dish and decoder from providers like PSP. Mostly Thai channels, but no subscription.

You forgot one thing! You can have the dish and receiver which you "paid for" with no card or service agreement and still get "free" channels everywhere in Thailand. Alignment is somewhat critical. Only thing is there are only a few free channel and are mostly the main Thai channels 1,3-5,7-9, 10 & 14. In some locations for some odd ball reason you get a few English channels that I did not list.

And the channels aren't always the same either. In Phuket the channels were not the same as in Korat. The only explanation I have for that is the satellite transmission polarization is different between the two so different channels can be displayed. If you want a technical explanation I can give you one.

Cheers for the replies

Mrjlh - could you tell me a little bit about the dishes. Would the stock standard orange one be a substancial difference from one of the bigger 'mesh' style dishes?

For the dish, I wouldn't be too concerned about missing out on the THai channels, although Australia Network would be high priority.

I will be in Pattaya - if the location is an issue, or like you said - English channels could just be hit or miss.

Thanks again

True visions dishes (Red) and that other company all down load their signal from a specific satellite from ThaiCom. The big mesh dishes you see is a whole different affair. Those are used to pick up the signal from about 14+ different satellites. Forget about those. You pay for all the equipment (expensive) because to get the value you need a multiple axis system but you watch for free. Usually hit and miss, no programming and you got to know where to point the antenna. You can even connect to the Internet to get more stations with it. Only if you are going to be here for a loooong time! and your not moving soon. Many of the signals are now getting scrambled. They scramble on the up link so becoming a waste of money. It's not illegal to view or listen to intercepted signals as long as you are not making profit from it.

Just get the basic service if you have the equipment. You just pay for the card and activation.

Ask around ehen you get to Patts..Coversation is everything
