U.K./U.S Married Couple Visa Question

Featured Replies

Hello,

THis is my first post in this forum, sorry if I am posting in the wrong place.

This January my wife and I plan on moving to Thailand. I have just completed my B.A. in English Education along with a TESOL certificate at my university. From what I gather I am required to get a Non Immigrant b visa in order to obtain a work permit. This does not seem to be an issue if I acquire a job that will help me with this. My wife is from the UK and has a BA but no tesol. My question is if i get a non immigrant visa and a work permit, can she stay in the country based on that? We are aiming for about a year and have enough funds to survive without her working. My fear is that if she has the wrong visa i am in trouble. Last thing i want is to goof this up. Hypothetically, if i have a job and she is my spouse there should be no issue, right? I can not seem to find much info on this and any help would be great. Sorry if this is a noob question.

Thanks,

William

p.s. we are us/ uk dual nationals. I'm 25 and my wife is 28, sorry I didn't mention the age

1. You will only qualify for a non immigrant B visa after obtaining employment offer/paperwork.

2. Wife will not qualify for any type of visa based on you having a non immigrant visa.

3. Only if/when you obtain one year extension of stay for employment will wife have status to obtain a non immigrant visa and then matching extension of stay.

So you both will likely have to travel here with tourist visas - when you find employment you go to Laos/Cambodia/Malaysia or such to obtain single entry non immigrant B visa - 60 days after return you apply for one year extension of stay and after that wife can obtain visa/join you on extension.
