OK, having searched this forum, I cannot seem to find the answer I am after. I will be grateful for any replies, and apologise if this is a really dumb post! Hopefully it will entertain some of the more experienced members here.:D

I want to make a simple garden light for occasional use that I can plug into an external socket. I believe I have all the right components, but they just aren't like anything I am used to back home.

The 'HomePro' light has 2 wiring sockets clearly marked L(ive) and N(eutral). My wire is just 2 cables stuck together, not coloured coded in Blue and Red although one does have the manufacturers marking on it in black. The plug just has two attachment points for the wire, unmarked. So, for me, a distinct lack of labels and colours, and therefore, instructions!

Now I understand the general attitude over here towards earths, (and probably fuses too,) so am not too worried about the lack of them for a 60w bulb plugged into an exisiting socket. I also know (although do not understand why) that most plugs are 2 flat prongs and can be inserted any way without any trouble. But what about the rest, ie matching the live and neutral wires/sockets up? Or does this not matter too much either?:o

Thanks for any assistance.

For a lamp, worry not, just hook it up either way round :)

Do ensure that your outdoor socket is protected by an RCD for your (and your family's) safety.
