Any suggestions by those more savvy than I on what might be good options - on price and/or value for money criteria?

Couple of options---you can always buy point to point BKK-LHR-BKK assuming you are staying in the UK but be warned the UK taxes are crazy. From the UK to Canada Air Transat while not the best certainly has cheap fares. Looking at Vayama you have to do multi city in order to have it all on one ticket and it looks like it is coming in around $2800 crazy expensive to break the trip in the UK. If you play around with Singapore Airlines they offer code shares into YYZ but it is better to call them directly as I can never seem to get thier booking engine to confirm, but they are expensive. BA offers a fare but it again is around 3K with stopovers in both directions in LHR.

If you dont have to fly to Europe, Air Canada has offerings from BKK via NRT/HKG and EVA now flys non stop to YYZ from TPE.

Etihad/Emirates fly to YYZ and Qatar is starting service to YUL

Thanks for those detailed options. I want and need to stop in London - both ways. Moreover I would like the option to change dates, albeit with a penalty. (I think BA bars that). Maybe the point to point option is the one that will work best. Never heard of Canada Air Transat, how bad are they when compared with Air Canada?

Air Transat are scheduled but more like a charter operation. In the Canadian winters they fly south and in the summer to Europe. The seat pitch is 32 and the food is ok but they are very strict on baggage.

Skytrax has reviews for both AC/BA/AT may help in your decision. Air Canada beats them hands down, frequent flyer points, more lift, better inflight meals, better inflight AVOD.

Thanks very much for the work and professional presentation. My dates are much more spaced out, and I mention this because some airlines will I think increase fares if the travel extends over more than a certain period - sometimes 1 month, sometimes 3 months.

I plan to do BKK?LHR around the 10th July

BKK/YYZ around the 5th August

YYZ/LHR around the 15 September

LHR/BKK around the 30th September

Ability to change dates, with payment of a reasonable penalty, is a necessity. I'd have to rule out an airline that barred this.

Incidentally how do BA, Air Canada, Transat, Thai Airways compare for legroom in economy class? Can I put points I earn on BA or Air Canada travel to my Thai Airways account?

Finally, would the total cost be much more if I break the tickets into two separate purchases, ie BKK?LHR return and LHR/YYZ return?

90,170 all in on your dates on BA. BA miles cannot be accrued to TG, different alliances. These cheap BA fares might not even accrue OW miles? Not sure about economy seating, you can search some travel forums, like FlyerTalk, for more details. Two separate tickets will usually cost more. sticking with Star Alliance (TG) may cost more, especially if you want to get into 100% accrual fares. Not sure about change fees, on this ticket. You have a lot of requirements and variables, maybe best to use a travel agent?

A Star Alliance fare (TG/AC) with 100% accrual might be closer to 140,000 THB.
