Hello,

37-year-old American here. First time to Langkawi. Living in Krabi Town, so the bus to Satun and the passenger ferry to Langkawi is the obvious choice. I've read on here already the last ferry is at 4pm, and found a langkawi website that backs that up. But does the ferry from Satun to Langkawi run every day...even Thai National Holidays? My son's Thai school is closed on Friday July 15th, I doubt it, but I'm wondering if the ferry would be closed to?

Any thoughts appreciated!

yep the ferry seems to run everyday..however Islamic holidays will reduce the number per day to one..

...you may want to know that the bus only goes to Satun town and the ferry at Thamalung ( spell?) is about 10ks further on ..used to use a motorbike taxi before I started driving.....watch the price..think they wanted a 100 baht plus an expected tip!!

...if you are only going to Langkawi for a visa run ..then you may want to consider doing a border crossing in the Thali Ban National park? ( east of Satun ) But then you would miss out on the great duty free on Langkawi as a "free" port...lol

Problem. These are hydrofoils and access is via a stairway, is that likely to cause you mobility problems ? Really would advise you to ring first re the wheelchair. There is a car ferry that goes to Langkawi but think that might be only from Malaysia. Or if there is one from Satun doubt that its on such a regular basis as the above.

I used to travel on hydrofoils many times, but never between Langkawi and Satun,I've never seen hydrofoil in LOS/Malaysia.

You can fly on hydrofoil from HK to Macao if you want to try.

This is ordinary fast small ferry, not very poshy, access is via quite narrow staircase, but I think - they will take your chair as cargo.

just give them some time.
