There is a pet shop that only sells birds that just opened recently on the soi behind (what was) Carrefour Super Highway. I think it is owned by a farang. They have a large selection of birds. The place is tiny and cramped.

If you are exiting the Carrefour parking lot in back keep going straight. It is the same soi that I.S. Furniture Shop is on, across the street.

Also Kham Thiang market. If you enter the market from where Tesco is then keep going straight until you can't go any further, that's pretty much where they have birds and other small pets.

What kind of birds, actually?

If it's something parrot/budgy-like then you want to get them young.

As usual, I think you should check your facts before posting. She keeps the birds in the back of the shop, they're expensive merchandise. Last time I talked to her about them, she pointed to one and said it cost 25,000 baht!

/ Priceless

Please think carefully before deciding to keep a bird as a pet. It's an animal who's purpose is to fly. Like the saying goes - "as free as a bird". I can't think of anything more cruel than keeping an animal from what nature intended. It certainly won't love you for it. What's wrong with a dog or a cat?

* You're implying that a bird has to be kept in a cage; this is not true. When I had birds the cage was permanently open, used only for eating, sleeping and pooing. Plenty of flying all day.

* A lot of birds are just as happy climbing and walking.

* Some are social animals, so being kept with either other birds or humans (or other diversions) around is just as important as flying and probably more so.

As for a dog and a cat.. They're more expensive and require more space. A lot of cats are kept inside a house, never going outside; that's not very nice. Yet that same house would be just fine for a bird to fly around in.

How about a penguine, they can'y fly - so OK to keep as a pet - can keep it in the freezer. Or an emu - Rod Hull had one for years - until he fell off the roof (Rod Hull, not the emu - though it wouldn't have mattered much, cos they can't fly either - am I repeating myself?)

I bet the bird was glad you didn't put it in the cage if you used it to poo in!

Not all Penguines are cold weather birds. Hawaii had some so they must be OK in tropical locations too
