PAD Leader: Democrats Deserve Defeat

The core leader of People's Alliance for Democracy said sarcastically that the Democrats deserve to be the opposition in parliament, claiming that the party didn't use its opportunity to eliminate the Thaksin regime.

The core leader of People's Alliance for Democracy, Sondhi Limthongkul gave an interview in which he said that during the 2 years of the Democrat-led government, they failed to get rid of the Thaksin regime; and that consequently, Thaksin's seeds have grown up strong, evidenced by Yingluck Shinnawatra's landslide victory in the latest election.

In addition, the Democrats have turned their main ally, the PAD network, into its enemy after the Democrats accused the PAD network of receiving money from the ousted former PM Thaksin Shinnawatra.

Also, the Democrats falsely believe that the 'Vote No' campaign was to pave the way for the Pheu Thai Party win.

Sondhi said that the Democrats deserved to lose to the Pheu Thai Party, saying that the Democrat-led government failed to solve national problems, such as to protect national sovereignty along the Thai-Cambodia border when it signed the MOU 2000.

Meanwhile, Sondhi urged people to donate to ASTV as, he says, it is the only neutral broadcaster remaining and dares to fight for justice.

Well the establishment did expect the Dems and their fellow comrades in arms to win this election and they did have two years to make it happen. Oddly enough even most anti-Thaksin Thai people I know never thought it would happen. In many ways Sondhi is showing his frustration at this.

Where now for those on the defeated side? It seems they are utterly divided and more interested in ripping each other apart with nowhere to go leaving PTP in utter ascendancy. To be fair to him Sondhi has been quite correct in a lot of his analysis of recent old ginger governments, establishment and democrats.

A PTP government will also likely see a rise in ASTV again as everyone loves the dirt on a government and few other sources will be dishing it out

In terms of getting everything wrong PAD were top of the class by a mile!

Sondhi himself has lost all credibility!

I didn't realise he had any credibility to lose.

Sonti is only good in a war, aggressive and somewhat fearless, he was very effective in helping topple Thaksin- but when it's time to create something, his divisive and belligerent nature drives all friends away. Look at the PAD now,a mere shell of what it used to be.

In my view Apisit never had a chance to win over the north and north-east, the politics of hatred spread by the red radio stations made sure of that, on one visit to Nong Khai he was chased from the venue in just a few minutes. So perhaps the Democrats need a new face, untainted by the events of the last 2 years, but Apisit's skills in articulation and comprehension of issues are second to none, and he must continue to play a leading role for the Democrats.

They definitely need a new face. As soon as Abhisit is seen it is a distraction from anything the democrats are going to say. That may be unfair or not, but in politics the perception of leader is crucial and Abhisit is an impediment to the democrats. It is up to them whether they want to move on and become more electable or not. Thye coutnry suffers though if there is no viable electable alternative. The democrat party though is run on an old model so I hold out little hope that they will change leader, learn from the defeat or change to become able to practice modern Thai politics. More likely they will chose the same people with the same old division of power agreed between the bangkok and southern factions and the same old faces form these very regions. They really need blood from elsewhere in the party and quickly on top of the leadership issues.

In reality and looking back on it as soon as May 2010 was over Abhisit was finished politically. You cant have that happen on your watch and not take a fall for it (unless of course everyone is labelled as an evil drug dealers when it seems to be ok even with some so called human rights activisits and self avowed liberals). Still realpolitik is as aharsh world and Abhisit chose to play in it. Now it is time to depart the center stage. It will be an interesting test case to see whether the Dems have learnt anything or whether they will just blithely think it all unfair, put it all down to cheating and lying and continue in denial for another bunch of electoral rejections

Well the numbers of no voters didn't sway the election, but the basic fact they DID do this Vote No campaign no doubt turned some who voted, to not voting Dems.

Sondhi is certainly resposible for increasing the size of the lose and essentially yes handing Thaksins the keys to the candy store. Now he's trying to steer the blame way from his ill conceived idea. What a fool.

He's an egotistical meglomaniac, who never had any credibility except with siding up with anyone powerful or rich. Why didn't the little a55hole run for parliment, because it is a thankless task and no-matter what you do you will become unpopular.

Translation: SOUR GRAPES.

When will the People's Alliance for Despots ever figure out they keep losing because most people reject their politics, not because they're so in love with Thaksin. Brow beating everyone with nationalism isn't going to get them elected.

Yes, punish the Democrats for not eliminating Thaksin...by giving Thaksin a victory and unlimited power. Great plan.

Have to agree with the pleb to be honest

The Dems didnt do much once they were in but raise the fuel prices and annoy the poor even more...

Apart from the education improvements, they really should have done more - and certainly should not have allowed demonstrations to get that far out of hand, or even occur in a business sector at all... plenty of parks they could have been led to.

Still... i prefer the dems version of democracy than our demoncrazy repetition of 5 years ago...

How could they lead them to a park? They didn't want to be in a park. They moved the protest to the center of the city precisely because they wanted things to get out of hand so they could use a massacre as propaganda against the government.

And we too are happy to set up a foundation so we can receive funds from the public. We promise that we spend it wisely....jap.gif
