July 12, 201114 yr Does anyone know where to get Thai movies WITH english subtitles? I can't understand why the video shops only have audio and video in Thai, they are available OS with subs..... There are of course the copy ones, of which subs are more than a joke, translated by google perhaps. Might not be missing much, but would like to have a look anyway. Oz
July 12, 201114 yr If you want Thai movies subtitled in English like you see in the cinema then you need to buy overseas. Hard to find any in Thailand as the Thai movie industry believes selling them in Thailand would damage their overseas sales due to piracy...

July 12, 201114 yr I guess the Thai movies are mainly made for the Thai marked. It is kind of almost if a Thai looking for Thai subs on a movie produced in Germany. English is still not a big part of the society here (or English/Thai in Germany).

English is still not a big part of the society here (or English/Thai in Germany). All Thai movies have English subs in the theatre. They remove the English subs when they release the DVD in Thailand. They're all hoping that their movie will end up being popular overseas, where DVDs sell at a much higher price, and they don't want people buying the cheap Thai version. It usually ends up never happening and an overseas version is never released, so the only way to see Enlish subs is to see it in the theatre.

And the Thai movies on DVD are made for the Thais.
July 13, 201114 yr Kkerry is right. They have different releases / pricing for Thai movies overseas (with subtitles). They don't sell those locally in order not to create a gray market.
