Affirmation Of Freedom To Marry

Featured Replies

I will be returning to Thailand with my girlfriend next month with the intention of getting married, but I have a question about the a statement on

the AFFIRMATION OF FREEDOM TO MARRY

f) My occupation is Magician and I have an income of £ 500 per month

.I am currently unemployed and have an income of 0, does this present a problem to getting married

wowwww you really are a magician if you earn £500 a month and can go to thailand lol, no really affirmation of freedom to marry is nothing to do with what you earn or anything, it is just a paper from the embassy to say you are divorced or single thus allowing you to marry in thailand?

I agree John he must be either that or rich parents.

Proof of money is never needed to marry in Thailand, but you try keeping your Teelak happy on £500 a month and you'll be in the divorce courts before you know it.

As said, your income is not an issue when marrying. Don't really know why it's on the form, except T.I.T.

It will be, though, if you want your then wife to live in the UK with you; you will need to show that you can support her without recourse to public funds.

This means that while you can claim any benefits to which you personally are entitled, you cannot claim any extra due to your wife living with you.

My guess is that it was meant as a last opportunity for your wife-to-be to check that you have actually as much money as you appear to.

True, income has nothing to do with the 'Affirmation of Freedom to Marry'. So, you have plans to get married in Thailand then.

But when you bring your wife to your country, you have to apply for a K3 Visa (for US) which requires proof of employment from the past 3 years, bank statements, etc.

You should check if this also applies for your country.

The UK does have a similar rule: applicant and sponsor need to show that they can support themselves without recourse to public funds.

The money for this can come from income, savings or both and from the applicant, sponsor, a third party or any combination of these. Though someone offering third party support will need to say why they are doing so.

Anyone contributing toward the financial support of the applicant also needs to provide evidence of their ability to do so; pay slips, bank statements etc.
