Can someone tell me the approximate cab fare from the airport to central London (Kensington) nowadays? (Haven't been to London for some 5 years now).

Posted

was going to cost me 40 quid to Stanwell, it is next to Heathrow. They charge over 25 quid as soon as they leave Heathrow, if you have not got much luggage take the Heathrow Express, better than the Underground.

Go to www.addisonlee.com ...I used to chauffeur drive at airports in the UK for Air Crew and if you're talking London... these guys are good.

Agree, you can then get a cab from Paddington, probably quicker than a cab from Heathrow and certainly cheaper. Pretty good even with luggage.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately the non-airport cab alternatives won't do because a) there is luggage, and B) my girlfriend is kicking up a fuss at not just getting into a cab. I think I'll try to arrange the addison lee mini cab.

use airport to airport cars for half the 60 GBP one way like fleetstreet drivers and many others offering very reliable and good service or use Heathrow express afterwards take taxi or underground...

T3 to Gloucester Road Tube station -54 pounds arrived at 0615 and was in the taxi by 0705, had to wait 20 minutes for my room and saw some people from the flight that had taken the tube..................

If you have friends or family in uk give them your flight details and get them to ring local taxi firm they will then meet you at airport and it should be half the price of black cab

Bear in mind the time of day before deciding on a black cab. Some will deliberately find traffic at any time. I would seriously doubt £60 by the way. (expecting higher)

Thanks. I did this, and they've arranged a minicab for £30-odd pounds. Only snag is that if the driver waits beyond 40 minutes from the flight's landing time I get charged extra. Still it's going to be mch cheaper than the black cab. I will queue with my thai girlfriend in the foreigner's section of immigration and am hoping that there won't be long queues or over-zealous immigration officers holding us up - even though she does have the requisite visa.

But thanks everyone. I fly tomorrow. Thai Airways scheduled to get me to LHR at 1830.

Difficult to "find" traffic Heathrow to Kensington, straight road. Cost me £79 last week from T2 to Soho at 11 am so £60 is about right if you don't hit traffic. I did have a very clear run though, a bit of a jam would easily add £20 to that in no time. And no I wasn't paying for it. Normally just jump the tube. Long ago got fed up with the airport cars/minicabs, always end up with some Arab/African who finds some excuse to bump up the quoted price, added to which some of their driving makes the average Thai driver looks like a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

Bear in mind any extra cost will be simply for parking charges. Definitely the best option.

The tube every time for me. Plenty of room for baggage , access simple and cheap fares. Can never understand why people spend so much on black cabs.

Normally because they are not paying for it themselves. If you took the business expense charging out of the equation many cabs would be off the road. Tourists can't resist cabs either. I had some friends staying at Asoke and told them to catch the Skytrain and meet me at Siam for lunch. When they were 25 mins late I phoned only to find out they were in a cab and had almost reached Nana.

Plenty of room for baggage? I commuted through London on the tube for years, often there was barely room for the passengers crammed in, without worrying about try to cram baggage onto the train. I think the taxi is a good option if you don't want to use the Heathrow Express.

Be fair now. Heathrow has the advantage of being at the end of the line, you can always get on with your bags...problem comes if you have to change. There are not a few pilots and cabin crew live out at Cockfosters or thereabouts for the same reason, get on the train, park your bags and plug your mp3 in :D

Of course I stood at Kings+ the other day trying to change at 8.30 am and decided my life was worth more than missing an appointment and got off and walked. Its got immeasurably more crowded the last few years and very scary, last week my daughter and I turned back from catching the tube at Bond Street as she was freaking out at the crush just to get through the ticket barriers.

Given the heat down there at this time of year (illegal to transport animals at those temperatures)its a disaster waiting to happen....the Olympics quite possibly.

I used justairports.com a year ago and found them excellent.

Their current quote (today) from LHR to Kensington (SW7) is below, and there is currently a £2 fuel supplement so it would be £34 total.

A black cab would be double that, if not more.

Bon voyage!

Meeting point on all the terminals at every airport is arrivals hall. The driver will be standing holding name board of passenger. Thank You - The Fare for this journey is : £ 32 Airport is Heathrow Postcode is SW7 Vehicle is Saloon Journey type is From the Airport Baby seat requirement NO Payment method Cash

This taxi fare makes me feel I can go anywhere in the world without worrying about the costs. In sydney, travelling at about the same distance to the airport will cost me a lot more than travelling from LHR to Kensington.

Depending on traffic about £60. :(

Iconic London black taxis stop at the taxi ranks outside all Heathrow terminals. The journey to central London costs between £50 to £55 and usually takes between 30 minutes and one hour. Journeys which are both inside London and within 20 miles of the airport are priced using the taxi meter or a fixed price can be agreed.

Use Heathrow Connect https://www.heathrow...8844}&pageid=30 or Heathrow Express https://www.heathrow...ls/prices-fares to London Paddington rail station or London Underground to stops throughout london.

If you intend to do a lot of travelling in London, get an Oyster Card https://oyster.tfl.g...oyster/entry.do Oyster is the cheapest way to pay for single journeys on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground and most National Rail services in London..

Getting through Heathrow Airport within 40 minutes is very ambitious. Aircraft are regularly put into a holding pattern (queue) for 30 minutes or more before landing at the airport.. There are usually massive queues at Immigration for non European Union persons. Get some minicab taxi phone numbers or use another form of transport such as Trains, Underground or National Express Coaches which depart from Heathrow Central Coach Station. http://www.nationale...coach/index.cfm

Why would you want to take a black cab when the Heathrow Express is easy to access, and so much cheaper? Of course, I suppose that depends on numbers.

The minicab proved cheaper for two.Sometimes it would be useful for people to read the thread they are posting in with their encyclopedic knowledge.....biggrin.gif

Used to do tube to Victoria, and it took ages, stopping at every stop on the way of course, and could be crowded.

The main reason I ceased this in favour of the Heathrow Express, then cab, was that the underground in Central London is not luggage-friendly. I once had big luggage and found the long, steep escalator at Victoria a bit of a frightener. It was rush hour and crowded too.

There are also steps leading out of Victoria underground which, although few, can be difficult with luggage. Victoria Station, itself, is not ideal with luggage either as the pay-to-enter toilets have an akward barrier and steps. Amazing for a "hub" station which copes with thousands of travellers from abroad, or going abroad daily.

I I am not a youngster anymore, so these little hazards become more difficult, and the last thing one needs after a long-haul flight.

All the cab information above has proved useful, as it is getting to the stage where I would prefer to pay for a bit of "easy" and avoid hassle.

most times when I land at LHR I head for Brighton with a combination of shuttle bus and train...altogether not too bad and the Gatwick to Brighton train ride is nice, feet up with a can of cider...but I have used the Heathrow Express a few times when I needed to get into London from LHR and it was very nice and any destination in downtown London is not too far from Paddington...few hassles with the usual one big trolley bag and a computer bag and moderately priced...

I did a similar journey in January, from Heathrow I caught the direct bus to East Croydon, brilliant journey and only cost me £2.20, from East Croydon I caught the Southern train to Brighton, which cost me £1.75, yes £1.75 by booking online and in advance.

I did it this way as I wanted to pass by a few old haunts, have to say it was a breeze and most enjoyable.

Sorry to veer off topic.
