October 22, 200520 yr Fares 'to be capped at 25 baht' BANGKOK: -- Fares of motorcycle taxis will be capped at 25 baht for the first two kilometres, but will not start at that price, said Piyapan Champasut, director-general of the Land Transport Department. Mr Piyapan yesterday denied press reports that his agency would allow motorcycle taxis to charge passengers 25 baht for the first two kilometres. Fare rates would be progressive depending on distances but the ceiling for the first two kilometres would be 25 baht, he said. Mr Piyapan said fares will differ in the provinces and will be determined by motorcycle taxi committees chaired by provincial governors. However, the ceiling will apply to all. Motorcycle taxi fares will be worked out and imposed by March 7 next year. They will be introduced along with motorcycle taxi regulations that require drivers to be registered, specify their service areas and impose official fare rates. --Bangkok Post 2005-10-22
