Flash floods hit Prachuap Khiri Khan province

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: -- Heavy rains and flash floods have hit at least five villages in coastal Prachuap Khiri Khan province beginning early Sunday.

Bang Sapan district chief Pradit Yamanun said five villages were severely affected by heavy rain and flash floods, causing at least 245 houses, 24 roads and 15,000 rai (6,000 acres) of farmland to be inundated.

Mr. Pradit said relief supplies are being sought by the flood-affected villages and villagers are preparing for evacuation should heavy rain continue to fall in the area.

Meanwhile, Pramote Sampao-ngern, district chief of Pi Pun in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, today denied newspaper reports which said that a reservoir in his district had cracked and may burst due to ongoing heavy rain.

Villagers in the area panicked and prepared to evacuate because of the reports.

Mr. Pramote reiterated that the reports were not true as the reservoir had been inspected by relief and district officials and there were no signs of structural failure of the reservoir.
