Taliban says its phones and websites were hacked, used to publish false statement

2011-07-20 12:38:26 GMT+7 (ICT)

KABUL (BNO NEWS) -- The Taliban on early Wednesday morning said its website and phones had been hacked to send out a false statement to journalists to announce the death of its leader Mullah Omar.

An English-language website used by the Taliban showed the apparent fake release on Wednesday morning. "To all the inhabitants of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban) and respected Muslims, it is with great shock and sorrow that the news is given that the Amir of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the Leader of the Taliban, the esteemed Amir ul Momineen Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid, on the 15th of July in the current year of 2011, passed away after an illness of the heart," the false statement read.

Soon later, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said in a statement that Omar is alive. "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan strongly condemns this technical larceny and behavioral crime of the enemy and calls on its Mujahid nation not to lend an ear to the designs of the enemy or believe in their propaganda," the spokesman said.

It was not immediately known who or which group was behind the hacking, although the Taliban accused Afghan and U.S. spy agencies. These claims could not be confirmed.

Omar is never seen in public and there are frequent rumors which allege Omar's death. In late May, a similar report that said Omar was killed was also denied by the Taliban. "He is safe and sound," the Taliban said at the time.

News International at it again? :whistling:

Surely if they were hacked they would for once issue a true statement?

Has the truth ever been posted on those sites?

I thought internet was evil invention of the West, and yet they still use it

For years now, I've been proposing that muslim extremists set aside one day, just one day per month, to exhibit their disdain for all things western.

On that one day, they can shun all things from the heretic evil west. They can do without internal combustion engine powered things, water pumps, ice, air.con, canned food, bottled drinks, internet, phones, computers, digital devices, velcro, satelites, gps, TV, radio, electricity, electric lamps, fans. Indeed, all they'd be left with on that one day, is a campfire of camel dung and conversation about how evil the west is. Mullar Omar has probably been dead for 5 to 10 years. Who cares but them? He's a nothing. He doesn't even have the balls to show a photo of himself to his blood-lusting, child demolishing brethren.
