Hi

I am interested looking into starting a web site with a few other people. I see yahoo selling web sites $699 are there any cheaper options. It would be a motorcycle club/intrests web site. I dont want a yahoo groups page

Any ideas

Seems a bit expensive!

Costs of a website breaks down into 3 parts:

1) Registration of your URL, at the moment this costs less then 10US$/year for a .com domain, cheaper if you pay for 5 years upfront...

2) Hosting (equals renting harddrive space on a server). I host several low traffic sites on 3ix servers, at a cost of less then 500 Baht/year/site. Easy, can be paid at Kasikorn bank...High traffic/big sites would need a more expensive package, but the 500/year carries far for a new website.

3) Design/maintainance of your site. Here the sky is the limit. You can do it yourself, give it out to a friend (lots of people around able to design a basic html site) or go to a proffesional design office...

24000 Baht I guess would give you a quite nice site here in LOS. Best bet would be to find a capable Thai designer on a freelance basis, and just help him out with the English language...

I don't see the point going with free (limited)servers such as tripod-lycos, atfreeweb etc. when the yearly cost for your own domain and a decent hosting package comes to less then 1000 Baht/year (85 Baht/month)!

You can have a website with email addresses, a forum, a gallery, an online shop, and its own radio station for less than $25mo if you want. A Basic website and a forum for member interaction for less than $10.

I'd register a domain ($10-$20), get a basic $5-$10 hosting package, and if you are not wanting to build it yourself you can probably get someone to set you up for alot less than what Yahoo wants.
