My wife has just put in her application form for settlement in the UK . She took an English test last week which she has been told she failed .From what she explained to me

it seems this test was not just a Speaking and listening test , it covered many different subjects about England and cost about Thb 8000.

My questions are .

Does she need to pass this test before she gets her visa or can it be done in England?

Is this the correct test?

She has had a settlement visa 5 years ago and we lived in England for nearly 2 years and our son was born in England.

Maybe this is a simple question but ive searched the web and find different tests and levels being done for different reasons.

your help is much appreciated.

are you currently in the uk on a settlement visa ? is your wife applying for indefinite leave to remain? in that case she would need to take a ''life in uk '' test (multiple choice questions ) or she would have had to take an ESOL course in english language with citizenship

you said she applied for a settlement visa 5 years ago? did you return to thailand and not stay in the uk? what happened ?

if you are now in thailand and you are applying again for a settlement visa, your wife needs to successfully pass an english language A1 test before she applies. if a visa application has already been submitted, and she didnt include a valid pass certificate, the application will probably be refused and you will not be able to appeal against any refusal

here is a list of current test providers;
