Governor of BURIRAM (บุรีรัมย์) province YAI ROJSUWANICHAKORN (ใหญ่ โรจน์สุวณิชกร) has assigned all cock fighting rings in the province to temporarily halt their businessess until the avian flu pandemic subsides. He has also instructed all related agencies to closely monitor on the movement of poultry.

Mr Yai told livestock officials to transfer poultry farming to other areas if necessary but poultry farmers must ask for authorization first. Those who infringe the law will be severly punished.

The governor have also asked local residents not to touch dead chickens or poultry with symptoms. They should inform village headmen if suspicions of the avian flu symptoms should occur. Owners of sick or dead poultry will be compensated by the goverment.
