Financial Docs For Non Imm O?

Featured Replies

I am a US citizen, age 62, married to a Thai citizen. I have just received my one-year, multiple-entry non-Imm O visa at the Thai Consulate here in New York City. I understand that when I enter Thailand next month I will receive a 90-day permit of stay. At the end of the 90 days, I will have to report to immigration to get another 90 day permit of stay. At the expiration of the original visa I will be able to apply for a one-year extension based on support of my Thai wife during which time I will not have to report every 90 days, but can mail in address updates at the same frequency. Is this all correct?

My question is when will I have to produce documentation of the required deposits in a Thai bank, since I prefer that method to the income method? The Thai Consulate in NYC did not request any financial documentation. It looks to me that I will not need to show a bank statement until I apply for the one-year extension a year from now. Is that correct or will I need it when I apply for the 90-day permit of stay?

You will get 90 days when you enter the Country.

When your first 90 days are almost finished you need to leave the country and re enter to get another 90 days.

Do this every 90 days until your Visa has expired.

You do not visit Immigration.

In around 12 months time you apply for a 12 month extension based on marriage.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Letter from your Thai Bank showing balance and up to date bank book.

OR.

Letter from your Embassy showing income.

Marriage Certificate

Marriage Registry entry.

Wife's Tabbien Baan and ID Card.

Your Passport.

Copies of everything.

Photos of you and your Wife in and around the house.

A map showing the way to your house.

Passport size photos and 1,900 Baht fee.

Take your Wife to be interviewed.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp.

Go back in a month and get the remainder.

This is at odds with the response at the Thai Consulate in New York. According to him, I go to immigration to get a new permit of stay every 90 days. Although I could exit and re-enter the country, that was not required.

Do you have a reference for a requirement to exit?

Actually, it doesn't matter. I see from another thread how to avoid visa trips: apply for the one-year extension based on marriage during the first 90 day period. I hadn't realized that I don't have to wait a year to apply for the extension.

Sure you donot have a O-A visa Also there is a difference between getting a visa and a extension of stay. The Embassy and consulates fall under the Min. of Foreign Affairs while immigration is under the control of a seperate Department. The 90 day reporting for extension of stay is a immigration rule. The renewal of a multiply non-o visa by border runs is a visa issue under the Department of Foreign Affairs

It would seem that these two departments would be one in the same but they are not and it doesn't seem that they actually talk to each other

Seems to me he would be eligible for a retirement extention to his visa, would be a lot simpler!!

I would indeed be eligible for the non-Imm O-A, but that's not what I want. The O visa because of marriage has lower financial requirements and enables me to get a work permit if I want to do something that might require it.

You wasted the money on a multi entry visa when all you required was single entry but yes you can apply for extension of stay after being here 60 days but remember the money must be in bank account for 60 days when you make that application.

As said you only needed a single entry if you intend to extend within 90 days of arrival.

A Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa gives multiple entries for 12 months.

Each entry has a max of 90 days so if you intend to use the Visa for 12 months you need to exit the country every 90 days.

The choice is yours.
