george
how to get internet on to a boat. IPstar satellite doesn't work on boats, but mobile phones does. Choose GPRS from either AIS or DTAC. Connect your laptop to it and surf! Search this forum for GPRS and you will find several threads.
issan2
Hi George I saw that you use IPStar, if you dont mind me asking which service option do you use and how much a month does it cost you ? Im thinking of making the move to this and just wanted to get a feel for it. Im a little short of space, is it possible to sit the antenna on the roof ? cheers
george
I use IPSTAR Express Light 2 which costs 4,500 Baht/month + VAT 7%. That gives me 1,536MB traffic per month which is enough for me most months. Extra MB costs 2.5 Baht per MB. Installation (one-time fee) was 15,000 Baht. I can be online 24hrs, there is no time limit or charge my minute/hour. http://www.cscoms.com/en/product/ipstar_service.html
issan2
Thanks for that George and the private email, very informative ... Does any one else know about the dish. Can it be placed on a pole or on a roof like the UBC dishes ? I saw someone mention that it might need a concrete footing. Any ideas ?
